Box Score Worcester, Mass. (September 15) -- Senior captain Molly Kessler (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) netted two goals an an assist for the Assumption College women's soccer team, as the Greyhounds defeated Saint Michael's College, 3-1, on Saturday at the Multi-Sport Stadium.
Junior Andrea Bates (Holden, Mass./Wachusett) ended the game with a goal and an assist in the victory, as the Greyhounds improve to 2-3-0 on the season and with 2-1-0 in Northeast-10 play. The Purple Knights fall to 0-4-1 on the season and 0-2-1 in league play.
The Greyhounds got on the board first as Bates found Kessler for the first goal of the game at the 5:04 mark in the first half.
The Purple Knights knotted the game up at one at the 20:00 minute mark in the first half, as Olivia Biron netted a goal, leaving the teams tied heading into the half.
From that point on, junior goalkeeper Allison Bruder (Sandy, Utah/Juan Diego Catholic) was dominant, not allowing another goal on the way to nine saves, picking up her second win of the season.
Kessler gave the Greyhounds the lead just 4:11 into the second half, as she took a lob pass from Kristin Bateas (Fort Mills, S.C./William Hall), and beat the Purple Knight keeper for her second goal of the game.
Ten minutes later, the Greyhounds struck again as Bates headed home a Kessler cross, extending the Assumption lead to two at the 59:39 mark in the second half.
The Greyhounds will return to action on Tuesday, September 18 as the team will play host to Pace University. The game will begin at 3:30 p.m. at the Multi-Sport Stadium.
