Box Score Worcester, Mass. (October 12) -- The Assumption College women's soccer team defeated Stonehill College, 3-1, behind three different goal scorers at the Multi-Sport Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Assumption jumped ahead of Stonehill as Lindsey Miller (Hanover, Mass. / Hanover) recorded her first goal of the season at the 34:45 mark in the first half. Senior Justine DiDonato (Eastchester, N.Y. / Eastchester) assisted the goal with a beautiful cross to Miller, who volleyed the ball off her left foot to the upper left hand corner of the net.
The Greyhounds extended the lead to two as reserve Nicole Brady (Rockland, Mass. / Rockland) headed home a cross by junior forward Liz Manganella (Foxboro, Mass. / Bishop Feehan). Manganella lofted the ball over the Skyhawk keeper to Brady, who had a wide open net and she finished to give Assumption a 2-0 advantage.
The Skyhawks cut into the lead coming out of the half, capitalizing on a set piece as Brianna Duserick headed home a corner kick in the 48th minute to make the score 2-1.
Assumption responded with a goal less than a minute later as Kelsey Imondi (Warwick, R.I. / Toll Gate) gave the Greyhounds a two-goal lead on a breakaway score, giving Assumption the final margin.
Junior Rachel Edgin (Whitesboro, N.Y. / Whitesboro) made nine saves in the win for Assumption while Amy Wheaton made four saves in the loss for Stonehill.
The Greyhounds improve to 5-1-4 overall, bouncing back from their first loss of the season to improve to 3-1-4 in the Northeast-10 Conference while Stonehill falls to 3-7-1 overall and is now 3-4-1 in league play.
Assumption will be back in action on October 16th against No. 3 ranked the College of Saint Rose. The match will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Saint Rose.
