Greyhounds Rally to 3-2 OT Win Over Bentley

Box Score

Waltham, Mass. (October 19) -- The Assumption College women's soccer team rallied to a 3-2 overtime win over Bentley University on Saturday morning.

The Falcons jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the Greyhounds responded with three unanswered goals to improve to 6-2-4 overall and 4-2-4 in Northeast-10 Conference play.

Holding a 1-0 lead at halftime, Patty McAllister gave the Falcons a two-goal advantage on a loose ball in the 52nd minute.

The Greyhounds roared back with two goals over a four-minute span in the second half to tie the game and send it to overtime. Junior Lindsey Miller (Hanover, Mass. / Hanover) got the Greyhounds on the board in the 68th minute, putting away a perfectly placed corner by senior Justine DiDonato (Eastchester, N.Y. / Eastchester).

The goal swung the momentum in favor of the Greyhounds, who leveled the score on a nice sequence of passes, ending in a goal by Senior Andrea Bates (Holden, Mass. / Wachusett). It was Bates team-leading fifth goal in the 72nd minute.

Liz Manganella (Sandwich, Mass. / Sandwich) dominated the left wing and helped equal the score when she received a ball from Katie Bealka (East Freetown, Mass. / Apponequet Regional), turned the outside back and played a beautiful left footed cross to an awaiting Bates, who headed into the back of the net.

Overtime went in favor of Assumption as the Greyhounds pressed high and strung together a series of passes that began with junior Rachel Edgin (Whitesboro, N.Y. / Whitesboro) and worked up to sophomore Paige Radomski (Kingston, Mass. / Silver Lake), who chipped a ball to Manganella. The junior forward delivered a cross to Bates, who made the extra pass to freshman Emily Hill (Dedham, Mass. / Dedham).

Hill delivered the game-winning goal at the 95:45 mark as she was able to one-touch the pass in overtime on a rare double-assist from Bates and Manganella.

Edgin made five saves to earn her sixth win of the season while Christiana Hynds made seven saves for Bentley.

The Greyhounds dominated the corner kick battle, holding a 10-2 edge over the Falcons and out shot Bentley by a 19-10 mark overall.

Bentley falls to 2-8-2 with the loss and is now 1-7-2 in Northeast-10 Conference play. The Greyhounds are back in action on October 22nd as the Greyhounds will play host to nationally-ranked American International College. The match will begin at 7 p.m. at the Multi-Sport Stadium in Worcester, Mass.
