Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Clermont, Fla. (March 4) -- Led by a three-home run day from senior second baseman Lauren Medeiros (Seekonk, Mass./Seekonk), the Assumption College softball  team earned a split with Concordia (N.Y.) and No. 17 ranked West Virginia Wesleyan on Monday morning. The Hounds took game one vs. Concordia by a 9-1 final in six innings before falling to WVWU 17-2 in five innings in the second game.

Medeiros launched a three-run shot to help propel the Hounds to a 4-0 lead in the second inning of game one. Standing at 5-1 in favor of the Hounds, Medeiros hit her second long ball of the day with a two-run shot for the 7-1 advantage in the fourth.  Assumption nearly ended the game in the bottom of fifth as the Hounds got two runners in scoring position with one out before the Clippers got out of the inning.

The Hounds did end the game on the first pitch of the sixth inning however as sophomore Ashley Impagliazzo (Glocester, R.I./LaSalle Academy) launched her first home run of the year to make it a 9-1 final in six innings. Junior Jenn Lattal (Windsor, Conn./Windsor) went the distance to improve to 1-1 overall as she scattered five hits on one run with eight strikeouts and two walks.

Senior Melissa Jalbert (Gardner, Mass./Gardner) was 4-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI, while Medeiros was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and five runs batted in. Impagliazzo also added two hits, including the game-ending solo homer.

In the second game, the 17th-ranked Bobcats used a nine-run second inning to blow the game wide open, en route to the 17-2 victory. Senior pitcher Rachel Hedge (Manchester, N.H./Manchester Memorial) took the loss as she allowed 10 earned runs on 10 hits in 1.2 innings to drop to 0-2 on the season. The Bobcats added seven runs in the third inning off freshman reliever Jess Underwood (Hudson, N.H./Alvirne) as West Virginia Wesleyan has now won two straight. Medeiros and Impagliazzo each had two hits in the second game, along with a 2-for-2 day for sophomore third baseman Jess DiPilato (Worcester, Mass./Holy Name).

Assumption now sits at 1-3 overall on the season, while Concordia is 0-3 and West Virginia Wesleyan stands at 8-3 overall.
