Box Score 2 Worcester, Mass. (April 10) -- The Assumption College softball team dropped the
Northeast-10 Conference divisional game of a doubleheader, 7-5, against the College of Saint Rose before tying, 2-2, in five innings in the second game at Marois Field on Wednesday afternoon.
The doubleheader marked the home opener for Assumption and with the loss the Greyhounds fall to 9-18-1, including a 4-5 mark in divisional play. Saint Rose improves to 8-16-1 overall and 4-4 in divisional action.
The Greyhounds jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the first game, starting with three runs in the first inning. Senior Tanya Robidoux (Hooksett, N.H. / Manchester Central) started the scoring with an RBI single, driving in sophomore Ashley Impagliazzo (Glocester, R.I. / LaSalle Academy). The Greyhounds capitalized on a throwing error by the catcher at Robidoux stole second before scoring on a groundout by senior Melissa Jalbert (Gardner, Mass. / Gardner).
After Saint Rose added a run in the top of the second, Assumption added two its lead with a two-run homerun by sophomore Jess DiPilato (Worcester, Mass. / Holy Name), pushing its lead to four, 5-1.
Saint Rose responded again with two runs in the top of the third, fifth, and sixth innings on the way to its comeback win.
Senior Rachel Hedge (Manchester, N.H. / Manchester Memorial) took the loss for Assumption, allowing four runs on six hits over 3.2 innings of work. The senior struck out one while issuing one intentional walk in the loss.
Hedge earned a no-decision in game two, working five innings while allowing two runs, one earned. The senior struck out one and allowed six hits in her second start of the day.
Robidoux and Jalbert each had a RBI in the second game on the way to the 2-2 tie. The Greyhounds will return to action on Friday, April 12th at Adelphi University. The game will begin at 3:30 p.m. and will mark the first game of a three-game series concluding with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 13th.
