Syracuse, N.Y. (April 24) -- Led by a complete-game, six-hit game one performance from junior pitcher Jenn Lattal (Windsor, Conn./Windsor), the Assumption College softball earned a road doubleheader split with Le Moyne College at the Niland Athletic Complex on Wednesday afternoon. The Hounds won game one by a 2-1 final as Assumption took two of three divisional games from the Dolphins. Le Moyne earned the split as the Dolphins scored two in the bottom of the sixth for the 8-6 final in game two.

Game one was scoreless until the top of the fifth as the Hounds struck for a pair of two-out runs and the 2-0 lead. An RBI single thru the left side from junior Tanya Robidoux (Hooksett, N.H./Manchester Central) scored from freshman Kayli Moniz (Fairhaven, Mass./Fairhaven) for the first run. Sophomore first baseman Ashley Impagliazzo (Glocester, R.I./LaSalle Academy) followed that with a single thru the left side of her own which scored Robidoux for the eventual winning run. Le Moyne got one back in the bottom of the seventh as Demetra Kermidas scored an unearned run with two outs to make it just a 2-1 game. Lattal got Kirsten Trotta to foul out to left field to end the game though as she picked up the victory to improve to 7-10 on the season.

Sarah Harrison took the loss for Le Moyne, falling to 13-15 overall as she scattered six hits with seven strikeouts. Lattal ended the game with six strikeouts and two walks in the complete-game effort. Moniz led the offense with a 2-for-3 effort in the win.

In the second, senior Lauren Medeiros (Seekonk, Mass./Seekonk) led off the game with a double to right center and eventually came home on an error for the 1-0 lead. The Hounds added to the lead as Impagliazzo grounded out to shortstop to score senior Melissa Jalbert (Gardner, Mass./Gardner) for the 2-0 edge.

Le Moyne answered immediately with three runs in the bottom of the frame though off of Assumption freshman starter Jess Underwood (Hudson, N.H./Alvirne). The Dolphins took advantage of two hits and one Greyhound error as the offense was led by a two-RBI single thru the left side by Vanessa Utley. Medeiros and the Hounds answered right back in the top of the second as an RBI double to right center scored Moniz for the 3-3 score after just an inning and a half.

The Dolphins led off the bottom of the second with back-to-back hits as Underwood was pulled for Assumption in favor of senior Rachel Hedge (Manchester, N.H./Manchester Memorial). Le Moyne came out of the inning with the 6-3 lead though as Kermidas posted a two-RBI single to right to lead a four-hit attack in the frame.

Assumption slowly chipped away at the three-run deficit with a sacrifice fly from junior Kolby Davenport (Merrimack, N.H./Merrimack) in the third and a two-RIB single from Jalbert in the fourth to tie the game for the final time at 6-6.

The game remained tied until the bottom of the sixth when Fran Kiernan put the Dolphins ahead for good at 7-6 with an RBI double down the right field line. Trotta added an insurance run as she scored on a wild pitch to account for the 8-6 final.

Hedge took the loss for Assumption as she went five innings in relief and fell to 3-11 overall. Harrison came in in relief for the Dolphins, going 4.2 innings to improve to 14-15 overall.

Jalbert was 3-for-4 in the game, while sophomore Jess DiPilato (Worcester, Mass./Holy Name) put together a 2-for-3 showing in the second game.

With the split, Assumption sits at 14-25-1 overall and 7-11 in Southwest Division play, while Le Moyne is now 17-20 overall and 8-10 in the division.

The Hounds remain in contention for a spot in the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament with a three-game divisional series remaining with the University of New Haven this weekend. Game one is slated for a 4 p.m. start on Friday afternoon, followed by a doubleheader on Saturday, April 27th as the Hounds will hold their Senior Day.
