Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Albany, N.Y. (April 3) -- After dropping a 7-6 final in eight innings in game one, the Assumption College softball team earned a split with the College of Saint Rose as the Hounds took the second game by a 9-6 margin on Wednesday afternoon in Northeast-10 play.

The Hounds struck first in game one as sophomore Jess DiPilato (Worcester, Mass./Holy Name) reached on a leadoff walk and later scored on a double to center by junior Tanya Robidoux (Hooksett, N.H./Manchester Central) for the early 1-0 edge. In the bottom of the third, Saint Rose struck in a big way for five runs on four hits, including four unearned scores, to seize a 5-1 lead and chase Assumption freshman starter Jess Underwood (Hudson, N.H./Alvirne) after just 1.1 innings.

The deficit was short-lived though as sophomore catcher Andrea Crowley (Norfolk, Mass./Ursuline Academy) tied the game at 5-5 with one swing on a two-out grand slam in the top of the third. In the bottom of the fourth, the Golden Knights took advantage of a two-out walk by Kari Bird as she later scored on a double down the left field line by Danielle Brusca for the 6-5 lead.

Following a scoreless fifth on both sides, Assumption tied the game yet again in the top of the sixth as senior Lauren Medeiros (Seekonk, Mass./Seekonk) singled thru the right side to score Northeast-10 Player and Rookie of the Week Kayli Moniz (Fairhaven, Mass./Fairhaven).

The game went to extras and in the bottom of the eighth, Marisa Bird reached on a leadoff single and advanced to second on a two-out error to get into scoring position. The Golden Knights scored the game winner moments later as Taylor Snider doubled to left to score Bird for the 7-6 final.

Junior pitcher Jenn Lattal (Windsor, Conn./Windsor) took the loss to drop to 5-9 overall as she scattered 10 hits with just one earned run and nine strikeouts. Nicole Wickham picked up the win in 5.1 innings of relief as she gave up one earned run on just four hits.

Robidoux was 3-for-4 in game one, along with a 2-for-4 game with four runs batted in by Crowley.

In game two, Rachel Reed put Saint Rose up by a 2-0 margin with a two-RBI double in the first off Assumption senior starter Rachel Hedge (Manchester, N.H./Manchester Memorial). The Hounds answered in the top of the third as Moniz reached on a single to center, followed by a one-out, two-run homer to left by DiPilato to tie the game at 2-2.

Assumption took a 6-2 lead in the fourth behind RBI hits from sophomore Ashley Impagliazzo (Glocester, R.I./LaSalle Academy), Moniz and Robidoux and a pair of Golden Knights errors. The Hounds put the game further out of reach in the fifth with three runs behind an RBI single up the middle from junior Nikki Boris (Gardner, Mass./Gardner) and a two-RBI single to center from Crowley for the 9-2 advantage.

Saint Rose scored one run in the fifth and added three in the seventh behind a two-RBI single up the middle from Rachel Waleski as the Hounds took the 9-6 final for the split.

Hedge picked up the win to improve to 1-3 overall and she lasted 4.2 innings and scattered six hits while allowing three runs, including two earned. Lattal pitched the final 2.1 innings, allowing three runs on three hits.

Boris, Impagliazzo and Moniz each posted two hits in the win, along with two runs batted in by both DiPilato and Crowley. Boris, Impagliazzo and Moniz each scored a pair of runs as the Hounds split for the third straight league doubleheader.

Assumption now sits at 7-13 overall and 4-4 in Northeast-10 Southwest Division play, while Saint Rose is now 5-14 overall and 3-4 in the division.

Assumption returns to action on Thursday, April 4th as the Hounds will travel to Southern New Hampshire for a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. That game was originally scheduled to take place in Worcester, but has been moved due to unplayable conditions at Marois Field.
