Greyhounds Play to Tie Against New Haven

New Haven, Conn. (September 18) -- The Assumption College women's soccer team played to a 1-1 tie against the University of New Haven, extending its streak without a loss against the Chargers to three games.

The Chargers opened the game up with a quick goal as Amber Simms scored at the 3:11 mark in the first half to give New Haven a 1-0 lead. After allowing the score in the opening minutes, the Greyhound back line tightened up, holding a high-powered Charger attack scoreless for 107 minutes.

Senior Andrea Bates (Holden, Mass. / Wachusett) leveled the score with her third goal of the season to tie the score in the final minutes before halftime.

Junior goalkeeper Rachel Edgin (Whitesboro, N.Y. / Whitesboro) made seven saves in the tie, while keeping the Chargers off the board as Assumption earned a hard-fought tie against another unbeaten Northeast-10 Conference opponent.

The Greyhounds outshot the Chargers, 23-21, including an impressive 15-8 edge in shots on goal.

Assumption moves to 2-0-2 on the season and 0-0-2 in Northeast-10 Conference action, while the Chargers now own a 3-0-2 overall and 1-0-1 in league play.

Assumption is back in action on Saturday, September 21st as the Greyhounds will travel to Saint Michael's College. The match will begin at 2 p.m. against the Purple Knights.
