Box Score Colchester, Vt. (September 21) -- The Assumption College women's soccer team edged Saint Michael's College by a 1-0 final as senior Andrea Bates (Holden, Mass. / Wachusett) scored the lone goal of the contest, her fourth of the season.
After a scoreless first half, the Greyhounds turned up the tempo in the second half, putting nine shots on net, as Bates broke through in the 58th minute of play. Sophomore Paige Radomski (Kingston, Mass. / Silver Lake) played a through ball which Bates was able to pick up for a breakaway score.
Junior Rachel Edgin (Whitesboro, N.Y. / Whitesboro) earned the win with her second shutout of the season. The junior made three saves in the win, while Kaylee Sullivan made 11 saves in the loss for Saint Michael's.
The Greyhounds standout freshman center backs, Kelsey Pietruska (Durham, Conn. / Mercy) and Jaclyn Tomasello (Halifax, Mass. / Silver Lake) limited the Purple Knights to just five total shots, including only three on target.
Assumption remains unbeaten at 3-0-2 on the season, including a 1-0-2 record in Northeast-10 Conference play, while Saint Michael's remains winless at 0-5-0 overall and 0-3-0 in the league.
The Greyhounds are back in action on Tuesday, September 24th as Assumption will travel to take on Pace University in Northeast-10 Conference play. The match will begin at 4 p.m.
