Box Score 2 Clermont, Fla. (March 11) -- On day three at the NTC Spring Games, the Assumption College softball team split a pair of games with Winona State and Northwood (Mich.) on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference play. The Hounds dropped a 6-0 final to Winona State before rallying late for a 4-1 win over Northwood to earn the split on Tuesday.
In the loss to Winona State, the Hounds fell behind by a 2-0 margin in the bottom of the second as Assumption gave up a pair of runs on two hits with just one run earned in the frame. Winona added three runs in the bottom of the third as the team had three hits and took advantage of three Assumption errors to stake to a 5-0 led after three innings. The Warriors scored their final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth on a two-out RBI double by Jenny Nelson that scored right fielder Ashley Walker for the game's final tally.
Assumption had four hits in the game to go along with four errors, led by a 2-for-4 showing from senior captain Tanya Robidoux (Manchester, N.H./Manchester Central). Freshman Nicole Harvey (South Berwick, Maine/South Berwick) dropped the shutout final to fall to 0-2 as she scattered seven hits with four earned runs in the 6-0 final. Morgan Lintz went the distance, scattering four hits in a shutout win that featured three balls and two strikeouts.
In game two vs. Northwood, Assumption trailed by a 1-0 margin after a Natalie Lampman solo homer to leave in the second. The score stayed that way til the bottom of the sixth as the Hounds struck for a four-run inning to take the lead. Junior Ashley Impagliazzo (Glocester, R.I./LaSalle Academy) posted a two-RBI single up the middle that scored junior Jess DiPilato (Worcester, Mass/ Holy Name) and sophomore Kayli Moniz (Fairhaven, Mass./Fairhaven) for the 2-1 edge. Impagliazzo scored on a hit-by-pitch later in the inning for the 3-1 lead. The Hounds added a fourth run in the inning as Robidoux had an RBI that scored freshman Ashley Abad (Bedford, N.H./Bedford), but Northwood got no closer as the Hounds picked up their second win of the season.
Freshman pitcher Jurnee Serating-Ware (Hudson, Mass./Hudson, Mass.) picked up the win with two shutout innings as she came into the game after junior Courtney Oliva (Vernon, Conn./Vernon) started and pitched a solid performance in the victory. Oliva allowed just one earned run with two strikeouts in the win.
Assumption is back in action on Thursday afternoon as the Hounds take on Mercy College in a regional doubleheader on Field 4 at the NTC Softball Complex. Game times are 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
