Worcester, Mass. (April 12) -- In the 2014 home opener for the Hounds, the Assumption College softball team dropped a pair of divisional games to visiting Saint Anselm College on Saturday afternoon at Marois Field. The Hounds fell in game one by a 1-0 final, followed by a 5-1 setback in the second game.

The opening game was a pitcher's duel between Assumption senior Jenn Lattal (Windsor, Conn./Windsor) and Saint Anselm junior Tayla Trask as just one run was scored over the seven innings. The Hawks picked up the lone run of the game in the top of the first as senior Nicole Boucher scored for the 1-0 lead. After reaching on a leadoff walk and stealing second, Boucher was sacrificed to third and later scored on an RBI groundout to the pitcher by sophomore catcher Pattie Turner.

The Hounds had just two runners in scoring position in the game as Assumption put together six hits in the one-run setback. Lattal, who held the Hawks to just three hits with one earned run and five strikeouts, fell to 2-4 with the defeat. Trask, who has a 0.64 earned run average, scattered six hits with no runs allowed, no walks and eight strikeouts to improve to a perfect 11-0 on the season.

Junior Ashley Impagliazzo (Glocester, R.I./LaSalle Academy) went 3-for-3 for the Hounds, along with a pair of hits from sophomore Kayli Moniz (Fairhaven, Mass./Fairhaven). Left fielder Kasey Moran had two hits for the Hawks, who managed just three as a team.

In the second game, Saint Anselm posted two runs in each of the first two innings to seize a 4-0 lead off of Assumption freshman starter Courtney Oliva (Vernon, Conn./Vernon). Boucher again led off the game with a walk, stole both second and third and came home on a single to right by Moran. Moran later scored in the inning as well, scoring an RBI double to left center by Monique Gauthier. In the second inning, senior Gina Treglia reached on a leadoff single to center and later scored on the first of two home runs in the game by Boucher as she launched the two-run shot to left.

Assumption got a run back in the bottom of the third to make it a 4-1 game as Moniz, who reached on a single to right, came home on an RBI groundout. Saint Anselm answered in the top of the fifth as Boucher homer down the left field line for her fifth homer of the season and second of the game.

Boucher ended the game 2-for-3 with three runs scored and three runs batted in. Assumption mustered five hits in the game, while Saint Anselm capitalized on its six hits for the doubleheader sweep.

Oliva took the loss for the Hounds to drop to 4-3 as she lasted two innings with four hits, four runs allowed and one strikeout. Freshman Jurnee Serating-Ware (Hudson, Mass./Hudson) threw five innings of two-hit, one-run relief to keep the Hounds within striking distance. Saint Anselm junior Paige Cormier went the distance for the Hawks as she scattered five hits with no walks and two strikeouts to improve to 4-7 on the season.

With the losses, Assumption drops to 9-15 overall and 2-8 in Northeast Division play, while Saint Anselm improves to 15-7 overall and remains perfect in the division at 5-0.

Assumption is back in action on Sunday, April 13th as the Hounds again host Saint Anselm College for a doubleheader beginning at Noon. The first game will complete the three-game divisional series between the two teams, while the second game on Sunday will be a non-conference game.
