Worcester, Mass. (April 13) -- In a Sunday doubleheader at Marois Field, the Assumption College softball team picked up a split with visiting Saint Anselm. The Hounds took game one by a 1-0 final, which was a divisional game as the Hawks took the three-game league series by a 2-1 margin. In game two, Saint Anselm picked up the 5-0 shutout win for the Sunday split.
For the second straight day, game one was a pitcher's duel with Assumption senior Jenn Lattal (Windsor, Conn./Windsor) and junior Tayla Trask allowing just one run combined between the two. Assumption picked up the game's lone score in the bottom of the fourth as senior Nikki Boris (Gardner, Mass./Gardner) doubled down the right field line with one out to score Jess DiPilato (Worcester, Mass./Holy Name) for the 1-0 edge. DiPilato reached on a leadoff single in the inning, one of her team-best two hits in the game.
In the top of the seventh, Saint Anselm sophomore Julie LeClair led off the inning with a double to center, but was later thrown out at third on a fielder's choice as Gina Treglia reached on the play. The inning and the game ended with Treglia as senior Nicole Boucher single to right with runners on first and second and Treglia tried to score the tying run on the play. Boris had other ideas though as she threw a strike to freshman catcher Cassandra Schultz (Amesbury, Mass./Amesbury), who tagged Treglia with the final out to hand Trask her first loss of the season.
Lattal scattered five hits with no runs, two walks and two strikeouts as she improve to 3-4 with the win. Trask gave up five hits as well with no walks and one strikeout as she fell to 11-1 for the season.

The Hawks added two more runs in the top of the third with a four-hit inning, followed by a run in the sixth as Byrne scored on a single by junior Kasey Moran for the 5-0 final.
