Box Score

Colchester, Vt. (April 19) -- Led by a five-run ninth inning to put the game out of reach, the Assumption College softball team ran its winning streak to four straight with a 9-1 win over Saint Michael's on Saturday afternoon at Doc Jacobs Field. The game, which was delayed by an hour due to rain, completes the three-game divisional series with the Purple Knights.

Assumption got on the board in the top of the fourth as senior Kolby Davenport (Merrimack, N.H./Merrimack) singled up the middle to score junior Ashley Impagliazzo (Glocester, R.I./LaSalle Academy) with the game's first run. Impagliazzo led off the inning with a single up the middle. The Purple Knights scored the equalizer in the bottom of the frame as Bethany Falls doubled to right center to score Sarah Bagley, before Falls was thrown out trying to stretch the play into a triple.

In the top of the fifth, the Hounds took the lead for good on an Impagliazzo RBI single to center that scored freshman Ashley Abad (Bedford, N.H./Bedford) for the go-ahead run. Assumption stretched the lead to 4-1 in the sixth with RBI's by junior Andrea Crowley (Norfolk, Mass./Ursuline Academy) and freshman Cassandra Schultz (Amesbury, Mass./Amesbury) as the Hounds were poised for the three-game series sweep. Assumption put the game out of reach in the ninth with five runs, started by a one-out RBI double to left center by senior Nikki Boris (Gardner, Mass./Gardner). Crowley picked up an RBI double down the left field line as her hit bounced off the top of the outfield fence, followed by a two-run homer by Schultz for the 9-1 final.

Senior pitcher Jenn Lattal (Windsor, Conn./Windsor) allowed one or fewer runs for the fourth time in her last five outings as she improved to 5-5 in the win. She scattered five hits over seven innings with two strikeouts and no walks to lower her earned run average to a team-best 2.77.

Laura McCormack took the loss in 2.1 innings of relief, dropping to 0-7 as she allowed five runs on six hits with one walk. Lea Gipson was the starter, going 4.1 innings with eight hits and four earned runs allowed.

Sophomore Kayli Moniz (Fairhaven, Mass./Fairhaven) led the Hounds with three hits, while Impagliazzo, Crowley and freshman Cassidy Colby (Charlton, Mass./Shepherd Hill) each added two hits.

Assumption now sits at 14-17 overall and 7-9 in divisional play, while Saint Michael's falls to 1-24 overall and remains winless in the division at 0-11.

Assumption is back in action on Tuesday, April 22nd as the Hounds travel to Bentley University for a single divisional game beginning at 3 p.m. That game will complete the three-game divisional series between the two teams.
