Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Easton, Mass. (April 2) -- In Northeast-10 divisional play on Wednesday afternoon, the Assumption College softball team dropped a pair of games to Stonehill College at Fr. Gartland Field. Assumption fell in game one by a 2-0 final, including a 7-6 score in game two as the Skyhawks completed the sweep.

Game one featured just seven total hits and two runs, with the contest remaining scoreless until the bottom of the fourth. In that inning, Cassandra Squeri staked the Skyhawks to the 1-0 edge with a homer to left field for her first of two hits in the game. Squeri made her second hit of the game count as well with a second home run in the bottom of the sixth to account for the 2-0 final. Her second homer went to centerfield as she finished the game 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two runs batted in. For Assumption, freshman second baseman Ashley Abad (Bedford, N.H./Bedford) led the offense with two of the team's four hits in the game.

Senior pitcher Jenn Lattal (Windsor, Conn./Windsor) took the loss to fall to 2-1 as she went six innings while scattering just three hits with two runs allowed and five strikeouts. Megan Ruonavaara picked up the win to improve to 2-5 on the season as she scattered four hits with two strikeouts in the complete-game effort.

In the second game, the offense came alive for both teams with 25 combined hits and 13 combined runs. Assumption got on the board in each of the first four innings, including a single run in the first as Abad came home on a Skyhawk error for the 1-0 lead. She reached earlier on an error by the Stonehill first baseman and stole second to move into scoring position. The Hounds added a second unearned run in the top of the second as senior Tanya Robidoux (Hooksett, N.H./Manchester Central) scored on an error, followed by an RBI single to center by junior Jess DiPilato (Worcester, Mass./Holy Name) for the early 3-0 advantage.

Stonehill cut the lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the second on a leadoff home to center by Cayleigh McCarthy, but the Hounds answered in the top of the third with a homer of their own by senior Nikki Boris (Gardner, Mass./Gardner). Boris, who finished 3-for-4 with three RBI in the game, launched her homer to left center. Assumption extended the lead to 6-1 in the fourth as a two-RBI single by Boris scored DiPilato and freshman Ashley Clark (Pawtucket, R.I./Tolman).

McCarthy led off the fourth with her second homer of the game as the Skyhawks eventually chased Assumption starter Jurnee Serating-Ware (Hudson, Mass./Hudson) from the game with one out in the inning. Stonehill cut the lead down to 6-4 later in the inning behind a two-RBI single to right center by Alison Sumski.

The Skyhawks pulled with 6-5 after five and eventually took the lead for the first and final time with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth. Sumski led off the inning with a double to left field and eventually scored on an RBI single up the middle by Jocelynne Morrell to tie the game. Lindsay McKillop, who finished the game 2-for-4, drove in Morrell from third with an RBI single up the middle for the 7-6 final.
