Box Score Worcester, Mass. (April 27) -- On Sunday afternoon on Senior Day, the Assumption College softball team dropped a 9-1 final to Southern New Hampshire University in a Northeast-10 divisional game at Marois Field. Prior to the game, the Hounds recognized five seniors for their contributions to the program during their careers.
Southern New Hampshire took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI groundout by sophomore Lindsey Bolduc that scored Mo Hannan for the first run of the game. Junior pitcher Ali Maloof kept the Hounds hitless until the bottom of the fourth as the Penmen looked for the regular-season series sweep. After a three-hit, two-run inning in the third, Southern New Hampshire put the game out of reach with a six-run fourth inning for the 9-0 lead. Tesia Stanesek drove in two with a triple to right center, along with a three-run homer to left by Bolduc.
Assumption got one back in the bottom of the frame as an RBI double to left by junior Ashley Impagliazzo (Glocester, R.I./LaSalle Academy) scored junior Jess DiPilato (Worcester, Mass./Holy Name) from first for the 9-1 margin.
Senior Jenn Lattal (Windsor, Conn./Windsor) took the loss in 3.2 innings pitched to finish the season at 6-7 overall, while Maloof improved to 17-7 with the victory. Over five innings, Maloof allowed two hits with eight strikeouts and no walks. Bolduc led the Penmen offense with two hits and five runs batted in.
With the loss, Assumption completes the season at 16-20 overall and 10-13 in Northeast-10 play, while Southern New Hampshire claims the divisional title with an overall record of 27-13 and a league mark of 16-9.
