Women's Soccer Takes Third Straight, 5-1

Box Score

Worcester, Mass. (September 17) -- The Assumption College women's soccer team (3-1, 2-0 NE-10) claimed its third-straight win on Wednesday night in the home opener over the visiting Chargers of New Haven (2-3, 1-1 NE-10) to remain undefeated in the NE-10. Junior Paige Radomski (Kingston, Mass. / Silver Lake Regional) led the Hounds in the win, scoring three goals on the day.

The Hounds got off to a quick start on a free position kick just outside the box 2:28 into the first period. Freshman and reining NE-10 Rookie of the Week Nikki Sloan (Stow, Mass. / Hudson) sent the kick in the direction of Radomski, who found the back of the net to give Assumption a 1-0 lead.

The Chargers evened the score quickly however, when New Haven's Sierra Stein popped a shot just over the head of Assumption goalie Rachel Edgin (Whitesboro, N.Y. / Whitesboro) at the 10:55 mark.

Both teams stepped up the defense for the next 20 minutes before Radomski broke through again, taking a cross from senior Lindsey Miller (Hanover, Mass. / Hanover) and sending in a shot from the left side of the box, once again giving the Hounds the lead.

Six minutes later, sophomore Tayla Morais (Taunton, Mass. / Taunton) scored the first goal of her career on a pass from sophomore Emily Hill (Dedham, Mass. / Dedham)

Before the Chargers could properly reset, Radomski struck again under a minute later. The junior beat out the defense unassisted to land her third goal of the game, her fifth of the season. Prior to tonight's game, Radomski's game high was one goal.

Assumption led 4-1 at the half and came out maintaining a strong defense. Edgin posted three saves on the day and was relieved by sophomore Emily Kuzma (East Haven, Conn. / East Haven) with 12:02 left to play. The Hounds added one more goal in the second period off the foot of Miller, assisted by senior Liz Manganella (Sandwich, Mass. / Sandwich).

The Hounds dominated offensively posting 22 shots, 15 on goal, compared to just seven shots, four on goal, for the Chargers. New Haven's two keepers totaled 10 saves on the day compared to three for Assumption.

The Hounds also held the edge in corner kicks, totaling eight to New Haven's two.

Assumption is set to return to action this Saturday, Sept. 20 as they host Saint Michael's College at 5 p.m. The Hounds faced Saint Michael's earlier this season in a non-conference match-up at the Catholic Cup where they earned the victory 5-0.
