Worcester, Mass. (September 20) -- The Assumption College women's soccer team (4-1, 3-0 NE-10) claimed its fourth-straight win on Saturday over Northeast-10 Conference opponent Saint Michael's (2-4, 1-2 NE-10) at the Assumption College Multi-Sport Stadium. Freshman Amanda Arnold (Dayton, Maine / Thornton Academy) scored two goals in the win to bring her inaugural season total to six.
The Hounds got off to a swift start against the Purple Knights, tallying two goals in under six minutes of play. The first came off the foot of senior Lindsey Miller (Hanover, Mass. / Hanover) just 3:13 into the first period. Junior Paige Radomski (Kingston, Mass. / Silver Lake Regional), who scored three goals for the Hounds on Wednesday against New Haven, earned the assist on the play.
Assumption added an insurance goal just two minutes later when a corner kick by senior Liz Manganella (Sandwich, Mass. / Sandwich) was headed into the back of the net by freshman Nikki Sloan (Stow, Mass. / Hudson).
The Hound offense kept up the pressure in the second half. Up 2-0, Arnold notched two more goals in the second period for Assumption to clinch the 4-0 shutout. Her first came at the 54-minute mark, assisted by Manganella, her second was an unassisted goal 14 minutes later. The freshman beat out a Purple Knight defender to draw out the Saint Michael's keeper, then launched a shot past the goalie at the back of the net.
Both teams collected 15 shots, six on goal, on the day. It was, however, Assumption that was able to capitalize on the scoring opportunities.
Senior Rachel Edgin (Whitesboro, N.Y. / Whitesboro) tallied six saves in her 90 minutes between the posts en route to her third shutout of the season, compared to just two for Saint Michael's keepers.
Individually, Arnold led the Hounds with three shots, two on goal, followed by Radomski and senior Kelsey Imondi (Warwick, R.I. / Toll Gate) who each posted two.
Assumption returns to action Tuesday, Sept. 23 to host Pace at the Multi-Sport Stadium at 7 p.m.
