Manchester, N.H. (September 5) -- The Assumption College women's soccer team (0-1) struck first on Friday against Stonehill (1-0) in its season opener at the 2014 Catholic Cup, netting its first goal just 4:05 minutes into the first half. The early goal however, was not enough as the Skyhawks posted four consecutive goals to top the Hounds 4-2.

It was Assumption junior Paige Radomski (Kingston, Mass. / Silver Lake Regional) who found the back of the net early in the first half, on a cross from sophomore Emily Hill (Dedham, Mass. / Dedham), for her first goal of the season. 

The Hounds continued to dominate the Skyhawks' end of the pitch throughout the first half, adding an insurance goal just over 17 minutes later from freshman Amanda Arnold (Dayton, Maine / Thornton Academy), notching her first career goal.

At the 33:56 mark, Stonehill's Claire O'Brien scored to narrow the Hound lead to one before the half.

The Skyhawks tied it up approximately 28 minutes into the second half on a high kick over Assumption keeper Rachel Edgin (Whitesboro, N.Y. / Whitesboro) from the right wing and proceeded to notch two more in under 10 minutes to clinch the 4-2 victory. 

Assumption posted 19 shots, 12 on goal, compared to just 12 shots, nine on goal, from the Skyhawks. Edgin tallied five saves between the posts while Stonehill's Jamie Block collected nine. The Skyhawks also earned nine corner kicks, compared to Assumption's four, which they were able to capitalize on for the victory.

The Hounds return to action tomorrow when they face the loser of today's Saint Anselm vs. Saint Michael's match in their second contest of the 2014 Catholic Cup. The defending champions are set to take the field at 1 p.m.
