Box Score Manchester, N.H. (September 6) -- The Assumption College women's soccer team (1-1) shut out Saint Michael's (0-2) by a score of 5-0 on Saturday to earn their first win of the season and close out the 2014 Catholic Cup. Freshman Amanda Arnold (Dayton, Maine / Thornton Academy) led the Hounds with three goals on the day. The rookie now has four goals on the season after just two games.
Following the conclusion of the tournament, Arnold and junior Paige Radomski (Kingston, Mass. / Silver Lake Regional) were named to the 2014 Catholic Cup All-Tournament team for their outstanding efforts over the weekend.
The Hounds blasted out of the gate with a quick goal from Radomski just 55 seconds into the match to set the tone for the rest of the contest. Radomski received a quick pass from Arnold eight yards out to net the first score of the game.
Arnold followed up her assist with two straight goals just four minutes apart. The first came at the 22:24 minute mark on a swift pass from the right by senior Liz Manganella (Sandwich, Mass. / Sandwich). The second was on a cross from sophomore Emily Hill (Dedham, Mass. / Dedham) at 26:53. Hill passed from the right into the box and Arnold finished by finding the left side of the net.
The squads entered halftime with Assumption leading 4-0.
Just three minutes into the second half, Arnold struck again, assisted by junior Jordan Kennedy (Shrewsbury, Mass. / Shrewsbury) to put Assumption up by five and score the final goal of the match.
Senior Rachel Edgin (Whitesboro, N.Y. / Whitesboro) tallied six saves in her 90 minutes between the posts and earns her first shutout of the season with the win.
The Hounds fired 22 shots on the day, nine on goal, compared to just seven shots, six on goal, for the Purple Knights. Assumption also earned five corner kicks compared to just two for Saint Michael's
Assumption returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 13 for their first Northeast-10 contest at Franklin Pierce. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
