-The Lead: The Assumption College women's soccer team extended its win streak to three on Tuesday evening with a 2-1 victory over New Haven on the road. With the win, the Hounds improve to 7-3, 5-3 NE-10 while New Haven slips to 7-3-1, 4-3-1 NE-10.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
-The Hounds took the lead in the 29th minute when reigning NE-10 Rookie of the Week Kallie Villemaire (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Beekmantown) made her way to a perfectly fed corner kick into the front of the goal. The freshman tapped the ball in for the 1-0 advantage, assisted by NE-10 Player of the Week Paige Radomski (Kingston, Mass. / Silver Lake Regional) on the corner.
-Assumption increased the advantage just 1:21 into the second period. Radomski launched another corner kick into the middle and junior Jaclyn Tomasello (Halifax, Mass. / Silver Lake Regional) headed it past New Haven goalie Deandra Nash for the insurance goal.
-New Haven reduced the deficit to just one in the 67th minute, 2-1. With the ball kicked high in the air, the Chargers' Marisa Garcia beat out the Greyhound defense and tapped it past junior Emily Kuzma (East Haven, Conn. / East Haven) in net.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
-Villemaire and freshman defender Kiana Rocco (Guilford, Conn. / Sacred Heart Academy) led the Hound offense with three shots apiece. Villemaire registered two on goal.
-Freshman Ania Spina (Wallingford, Conn. / Mark T. Sheehan) also posted two shots on goal to contribute to Assumption's 13 shots on goal on the day.
-Radomski also helped lead the offense, collecting assists on both goals.
-Assumption outshot the Chargers 19-12 and held a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks, converting two for goals.
-Despite the close shot totals, the Hounds posted a commanding 13 shots on goal to just three on target for New Haven.
-Between the posts, Nash collected 11 saves in her 90 minutes while Kuzma saved two behind the Greyhound defense in her 90 minutes between the posts.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE:
-Tuesday marks the third consecutive game in which Villemaire has tallied a goal.
-Villemaire now ties Radomski for most goals on the team, six, and is tied for third in the NE-10.
-With Radomski's two assists, she now ranks first in the NE-10 with nine. Prior to Tuesday's game, the senior was tied for third nationally with seven assists while the top-ranked player in the country had 10.
-Radomski's season assist total of nine is three more than her entire career total heading into her senior season.
-Tomasello's goal in the first period was the game-winner and marks the first goal of her career.
