Casey went on to earn NE-10 Conference Championship MVP honors and was named to the All-Championship Team.
The title is the team's first in program history as the Hounds have now won a program-record 10 games, including nine straight dating back to mid-September.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Hounds got on the board just 5:25 into the game on a 26-yard field goal by sophomore Cole Tracy (Camarillo, Calif./Newbury Park) for the 3-0 edge. The score was set up by a 34-yard run from freshman Deonte Harris (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) that got Assumption to a first-and-goal situation at the Charger eight yard line.
- New Haven's Tyler Condit intercepted a pass from sophomore Brendan Tobey (Lynn, Mass./Malden Catholic) and returned it 54 yards to the Assumption 21-yard line. The Chargers turned that into points with 6:02 remaining in the first half as Ajee Patterson jumped up to throw a two-yard touchdown to DeeJay White for the 7-3 New Haven edge at the break.
- Tracy connected for a second time early in the third as this one came from 37 yards out for the 7-6 UNH edge. Tracy put the Hounds in front again with 9:24 on the clock in the third as this field goal came from 23 yards out and made it 9-7 Hounds. That field goal was set up by a fumble recovery by junior Andrew Benson (East Bridgewater, Mass./East Bridgewater).
- The game of turnovers continued late in the third as the Chargers took advantage of an Assumption fumble and punched it in from five yards out on an Andre Anderson run for the 14-9 lead.
- The game-winning score came with 8:03 on the clock as the Hounds faced a fourth-and-goal play from the one-yard line. Appearing to be a run play by junior Alex Shain (Sanford, Maine/Sanford), Shain instead took the ball and threw a jump pass to sophomore tight end Cody Lynn (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) for the 15-14 lead. Sophomore Marc Monks (Annandale, N.J./North Hunterdon) then completed the two-point conversion to a leaping Ashton Grant (Manchester, Conn./Manchester) to make it 17-14.
- With the Chargers driving, Casey made a tremendous interception with 2:56 remaining in the contest to end the New Haven drive as he just got his feet down in the end zone after the pick. After an Assumption punt, the Hounds ended the game on a sack by sophomore Joe Bruno (Old Forge, Pa./Old Forge).
