THE BASICS:

-The Lead: The Assumption College women's soccer team earned its first win of the season with a 2-0 shutout victory over Saint Anselm to to open the season at the 2015 Catholic Cup, hosted by Stonehill, on Friday afternoon. Senior Paige Radomski (Kingston, Mass. / Silver Lake Regional) notched two assists in the win. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-The Hounds took a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute when Radomski lined up for a corner kick and found fellow senior Meg Campbell (Springfield, Mass. / Cathedral) for a header to the near post.

-Radomski would have another corner attempt with just five minutes left in the half (39:25), but an Assumption foul halted the Hounds' attempt to extend the lead and the teams went into the locker room separated by just one goal.

-Radomski tallied yet another corner just 41 seconds into the second half that sailed to freshman Kallie Villemaire (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Beekmantown), who ricocheted the ball off of the crossbar to keep the team ahead by just one.

-Assumption extended the lead in the 81st minute when freshman Jessica FitzGerald (Uxbridge, Mass. / Uxbridge) registered her first collegiate goal with a shot from the right corner of the box, chipped just over the Hawks' goalkeeper. FitzGerald was assisted by Radomski for her second assist of the night.

BEHIND THE NUMBERS:

-The Hounds were outshot in the first half, 11-4 but put up nine shots to just four for the Hawks in the second. 

-Assumption emerged with a commanding advantage in corner kicks, 5-1.

-Senior goalkeeper Emily Kuzma (East Haven, Conn. / East Haven) earned the start for the Hounds and tallied four saves in 90 minutes, compared to three for Saint Anselm's Cassie Quattropani.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE:

-With the victory, Kuzma earns the first shutout of her career.

-FitzGerald notched her first collegiate goal in the win.

-Campbell's goal marks the first of her career.

-With her two assists to kick off the season, Radomski now boasts 50 points for her career on 21 goals and eight assists. Last season, she totaled just three assists all season.
