HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME 1 vs. LIU Post

-The solo run of the game came in the bottom of the first inning when Isabella Corrao singled to center field to drive in Leah Mele, who had reached on a single through the left side.

-The Hounds held the Pioneers scoreless throughout the rest of the game but LIU Post threatened in the bottom of the sixth. The first two batters singled and doubled before a third was walked to load the bases with just one out. Sophomore pitcher Kendal Roy (Grafton, Mass. / Grafton) and the rest of the Greyhound defense worked out of the inning to keep it 1-0 but the offense was unable to catch fire.

-Assumption attempted a rally in the bottom of the seventh when sophomore Alex Haskell (Bedford, N.H / Bedford) earned a walk to first and was followed by a single to center off the bat of freshman Caitlin Mirabell (Shoreham, N.Y. / Shoreham-Wading River). The pair was unable to put up a run for the Hounds, however after a line out into a double play ended the game.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS - GAME 1 vs. LIU Post

-Both teams were fairly even offensively, posting six hits apiece. Only two Hounds struck out in game one compared to four Pioneers.

-Freshman Julia Mazzeo (Milford, N.H. / Milford) led the Hounds with two hits in two at bats.

-Haskell, Mirabell and junior Cassidy Colby (Charlton, Mass. / Shepherd Hill Regional) each notched singles in the game.

-Roy takes the loss for the Hounds and is now 2-2 on the season. She pitched 6.0 innings allowing just six hits and one run. She walked just one batter and tallied four strikeouts.

-For LIU Post, Hannah Olshevski improves to 4-0 after allowing six hits in 7.0 innings, posting two strikeouts and one walk.

HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME 2 vs. Northern State

-Northern State took the lead in the top of the third inning when Macey Engel led off with a solo home run over the left-field fence for a 1-0 advantage.

-Assumption threatened to tie the game in the bottom of the fourth inning when senior Kayli Moniz (Fairhaven, Mass. / Fairhaven) and sophomore Stephanie Menard (Cranston, R.I. / Cranston HS West) belted back-to-back singles with just one out. Junior Ashley Abad (Bedford, N.H. / Bedford) advanced the pair when she grounded out to the shortstop and was thrown out at first.

-With two runners in scoring position and two outs, a groundout to second ended the inning and sent the Hounds back to the field.

-In the top of the seventh, the Wolves loaded the bases with just one out. Northern State entered a pinch hitter and the Hounds swiftly followed with a pitcher swap. Junior Courtney Oliva (Vernon, Conn. / Rockville) stepped into the circle and struck out the Wolves' pinch hitter, but the following batter, Kelsey Gale ripped a line drive to right field to score two and put the Hounds down 3-0.

-In the bottom of the seventh with two outs and Abad on second base, sophomore Nicole Duplease (Leominster, Mass. / Leominster) stepped up with a clutch single. Duplease worked a full count and blasted a single up the middle to score Abad to make it 3-1.

-Duplease was followed by a walk from Mazzeo to put the tying runs on base, but the late rally fell short with a groundout to third that ended the game.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS - GAME 2 vs. Northern State

-The Hounds posted three hits in game two compared to seven hits for Northern State behind a game-best three from Kelsey Gale.

-Menard, Moniz and Duplease notched Assumption's hits.

-Senior Jess Underwood (Hudson, N.H. / Alvirne) takes the loss for the Hounds as she falls to 0-2 on the season despite a strong performance in the circle. She allowed just six hits and three earned runs in 6.1 innings while tallying three strikeouts. Underwood was relieved by Oliva in the seventh, who registered one hit and one strikeout in 0.2 innings.

-Northern State's Jamie Fisher earned the win and improves to 3-3 on the season.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORES:

-Four strikeouts is the most in one game for Roy this season, surpassing three in her season debut against Felician. Her career-high in a single game is five, which came against Concordia on March 3, 2015.

-Several Hounds turned impressive plays on the day, including Moniz and Abad who each had diving and/or leaping catches during the day to prevent the opposition from scoring.

-In the top of the sixth, Underwood demonstrated an impressive fielding performance in the circle, posting all three putouts for the Hounds. She collected a bunt and a grounder before swiftly snagging a line drive to get the Hounds out of the inning with a runner on third.

UP NEXT:

-The Hounds are set to face Southwest Minnesota State tomorrow, Friday, March 11 at 3 p.m., followed by Urbana at 5 p.m.
