THE BASICS:

-The Lead: Two Hounds combined for three home runs on Saturday in Assumption's doubleheader loss to Adelphi on the road. The Hounds fell 4-1 in game one and 10-6 in game two while senior Kayli Moniz (Fairhaven, Mass. / Fairhaven) blasted two home runs in game two and junior Cassie Schultz (Amesbury, Mass. / Amesbury) shot a solo homer over the fence in game one.
HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME 1
-Adelphi took the lead early in the bottom of the first when Nicole Camera singled through the left side to score Nicoletta Cuccio, who reached base after being hit by a pitch.
-The squads went the next three innings scoreless until Assumption tied it in the top of the fifth. Schultz stepped to the plate with one out and blasted a solo bomb over the left-center field fence to make it 1-1.
-Adelphi reclaimed the advantage, 2-1, in the bottom of the fifth scoring one run on a sacrifice fly by Brenna Martini. Martini scored Christina Palmenteri, who singled to right field, with two outs.
-The Panthers sealed the win in the bottom of the sixth when they added two more runs on two-outs for the 4-1 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS - GAME 1
-Sophomore Nicole Duplease (Leominster, Mass. / Leominster) was the only Hound to tally multiple hits in game one, going 2-for-3 at the plate.
-Freshman Caitlin Mirabell (Shoreham, N.Y. / Shoreham-Wading River), junior Ashley Abad (Bedford, N.H. / Bedford) and Schultz each added one.
-Adelphi posted six hits compared to Assumption's five.
-Sophomore Kendal Roy (Grafton, Mass. / Grafton) takes the loss for the Hounds, pitching 4.0 innings while allowing five hits and two earned runs. Roy is now 4-3 on the season and was relieved by junior Jurnee Serating-Ware (Hudson, Mass. / Hudson) in the bottom of the fifth inning. Serating-Ware completed the game notching 2.0 innings, one hit and two runs.
-Lindsay Mapes takes the win for Adelphi and improves to 6-5 on the season. She allowed five hits and one run while tallying 13 strikeouts in game one.
HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME 2
-Adelphi took another early lead in game two, plating three runs on two hits in the bottom of the first to make it 3-0, Panthers.
-The Hounds responded and closed the gap in the top of the second when Moniz homered over the left field fence to score sophomore Stephanie Menard (Cranston, R.I. / Cranston HS West) who had singled, 3-2 Adelphi.
-The Panthers extended their lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the inning. The two lead-off batters singled before the third batter put the ball into play. The lead runner scored as the last two were ruled out on a Greyhound double play turned by Abad and Menard.
-The fourth batter of the inning tripled before Hound pitcher Courtney Oliva (Vernon, Conn. / Rockville) fielded a grounder for the final out of the inning.
-Adelphi added three more in the bottom of the third on three hits to increase its lead to 7-2 and posted a two-out, solo homer in the bottom of the fifth to extend the lead to six, 8-2.
-In the top of the sixth, Assumption began to come back when Mirabell singled to the pitcher to score Duplease, who had ripped a single up the middle, 8-3.
-Adelphi scored twice more in the bottom of the sixth to take a seven-run lead, 10-3, before the Hounds began a seventh-inning rally.
-In the top of the seventh, Assumption nearly made a comeback when Abad led off with a triple down the right field line. Menard followed with a single to right field to score Abad and Moniz stepped up with her second home run of the game to make it 10-6.
-The Hounds left two runners on base in the seventh to close the game.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS - GAME 2
-Menard posted three hits in game two, more than anyone on both teams. She went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI.
-Mirabell, Moniz and junior Ashley Clark (Pawtucket, R.I. / William E. Tolman) also notched multi-hit games with two hits apiece.
-Mirabell was left on base four times in game two.
-Overall, Assumption was outhit by Adelphi 13-11 in game two.
-Oliva takes the loss for the Hounds and falls to 0-3 on the season. She started and occupied the circle for 2.1 innings allowing seven hits and seven runs, four earned, before being replaced by senior Jess Underwood (Hudson, N.H. / Alvirne) in the third. Underwood pitched 3.0 innings while allowing five hits and three runs.
-Junior Nicole Harvey (South Berwick, Maine / Marshwood) closed the game for Assumption, registering the final two outs in the bottom of the sixth while allowing one hit.
-Kristin Fealy takes the win for Adelphi pitching 6.0 innings while allowing three runs and striking out three batters.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORES:
-Schultz's home run marks her first in her last two seasons. Her last homer came against Saint Michael's on April 19, 2014 when she was a freshman. She now posts three for her career.
-Moniz's performance marks her first multi-home run game in her career. Prior to Saturday's game she had four career home runs, two in her freshman season and two last year in her junior campaign. She now ranks tied for third in the Northeast-10 Conference in home runs.
-Duplease leads the Hounds with a .414 batting average on the season.
-Menard is tied for fourth in the NE-10 with 14 RBI.
