THE BASICS:
-Score Game 1: Assumption 9, Nyack 1 (5 Innings)
-Score Game 2: Assumption 4, Kutztown 6

-Location: Clermont, Fla. (Hancock Park)
-The Lead: The Assumption College softball team claimed a 9-1 victory over Nyack College on Tuesday morning before falling in a close contest to Kutztown, 6-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME 1 vs. Nyack
-The Warriors got out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on a solo home run off the bat of Morgan Hans.
-Assumption's offense struggled to gain momentum until the Hounds exploded with a seven-run inning in the bottom of the fourth.
-Senior Kayli Moniz (Fairhaven, Mass. / Fairhaven) led off with a double to left field and scored when sophomore Nicole Duplease (Leominster, Mass. / Leominster) reached on a fielder's choice. Sophomore Stephanie Menard (Cranston, R.I. / Cranston HS West) scored on a Nyack error after walking to first and Duplease crossed the plate when freshman Julia Mazzeo (Milford, N.H. / Milford) notched a sacrifice fly to center field.
-Junior Cassidy Colby (Charlton, Mass. / Shepherd Hill Regional) scored when junior Ashley Clark (Pawtucket, R.I. / William E. Tolman) doubled to left center and Moniz followed with an RBI single to left to score junior Cassie Schultz (Amesbury, Mass. / Amesbury), who had walked.
-The final run to cross the plate in the fourth was Clark, who reached base on a double to left center field.
-The Hounds added two more in the bottom of the fifth on two hits. Junior Ashley Abad (Bedford, N.H. / Bedford) belted a two-run double to right field to score Colby, who singled, and Haskell who was hit by a pitch.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS - GAME 1 vs. Nyack
-Moniz led the offense in game one, going 2-for-3 at the plate.
-Clark and Abad each posted one hit to drive in two RBI apiece.
-Colby scored twice.
-Three Hounds doubled in the game including Abad, Clark and Moniz.
-The Hounds posted five hits compared to six for Nyack.
-Senior Jess Underwood (Hudson, N.H. / Alvirne) started in the circle for the Hounds. She allowed just one run in 3.1 innings before being relieved by sophomore Kendal Roy (Grafton, Mass. / Grafton). Roy pitched 1.2 innings and earns her second win of the week.
-Nyack's Kim Yano takes the loss for the Warriors after allowing four runs, three of which were earned.
HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME 2 vs. Kutztown
-Kutztown scored twice in the top of the first to get out to a 2-0 lead before adding another in the top of the second, and one more in the top of the fourth to make it 4-0.
-In the bottom of the fourth, the Hounds once again rallied, scoring three runs on three hits and no errors. Clark led off with a single to center field and was followed by Moniz, who doubled to right center.
-With Clark and Moniz in scoring positions, Kutztown made a pitcher change. Both hustled across the plate on wild pitches to make it 4-2.
-Sophomore Alex Haskell (Bedford, N.H / Bedford) walked to first and scored on a deep double off the bat of senior Christina Caira (Newton, Mass. / Newton North) to make it 4-3.
-Kutztown added two more in the top of the sixth to make it 6-3.
-In the bottom of the sixth, the Hounds scored once more on back-to-back doubles from Moniz and Menard for the final run of the game, 6-4.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS - GAME 2 vs. Kutztown
-Moniz led the Hound offense once again in game two, posting two hits in three at bats while also tallying two runs.
-Clark, Menard and Caira each added one hit.
-Despite the narrow two-run deficit, Kutztown out-hit the Hounds 15-5.
-Junior Courtney Oliva (Vernon, Conn. / Rockville) pitched an effective 5.2 innings for the Hounds, allowing just three earned runs while tallying one strikeout. She takes the loss for Assumption and is now 0-1 on the season.
-Junior Jurnee Serating-Ware (Hudson, Mass. / Hudson) relieved Oliva, tallying 1.1 innings and allowing just one hit.
-Kutztown's Jackie Morell earned the win allowing two runs in 3.0 innings.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORES:
-Abad has collected six walks so far this season.
-Four of the Hounds' five hits in game two were doubles.
UP NEXT:
-The Hounds return to action on Thursday for their first afternoon contests. Assumption will face LIU Post a 3 p.m. followed by Northern State at 5 p.m.
