THE BASICS:

-The Lead: Four Greyhounds blasted home runs on Saturday in the Assumption College softball team's sweep over Saint Michael's on the road in Colchester, Vt. With the victories, Assumption moves back to third in the Northeast-10 Northeast Division.
HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME 1
-Saint Michael's took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the second for a quick advantage.
-The Hounds responded with one run in the top of the third when junior Ashley Clark (Pawtucket, R.I. / William E. Tolman) tripled to left center with one out and scored on a sacrifice fly by freshman Caitlin Mirabell (Shoreham, N.Y. / Shoreham-Wading River).
-Assumption broke the game open in the top of the fourth, scoring six runs on four hits and one error. With one out, senior Christina Caira (Newton, Mass. / Newton North) doubled to center field to score senior Kayli Moniz (Fairhaven, Mass. / Fairhaven), who led off with a walk.
-Junior Cassie Schultz (Amesbury, Mass. / Amesbury) followed, reaching base on a dropped fly ball by the Purple Knight defense and scored Caira.
-Freshman Julia Mazzeo (Milford, N.H. / Milford) stepped up to the plate and blasted a two-out, two-run homer to score Schultz and take the lead, 5-4.
-Mirabell doubled to left center to score Clark, who had walked, and junior Ashley Abad (Bedford, N.H. / Bedford) singled to score Mirabell to take a 7-4 lead.
-Saint Michael's attempted a comeback in the bottom of the fifth, scoring two runs on three hits to reduce the deficit to 7-6.
-The Hounds added three more in the top of the sixth on a single by Abad to score Clark, who had reached on a fielder's choice, and a fly out by Moniz to score Abad and Mirabell, 10-6 Hounds.
-The Purple Knights registered one more in the bottom of the sixth and the bottom of the seventh for the 10-8 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS - GAME 1
-Clark helped lead the Hounds at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four runs scored.
-Mirabell, Abad and Mazzeo each posted two RBI.
-Saint Michael's outhit the Hounds 12-11 but left nine runners on base compared to just nine for Assumption.
-Freshman Kendal Roy (Grafton, Mass. / Grafton) claims the win for the Hounds and improves to 10-6 on the season. She allowed eight hits and six runs in 4.0 innings while striking out three. Junior Jurnee Serating-Ware (Hudson, Mass. / Hudson) pitched 2.0 innings and allowed two runs on four hits while striking out two before senior Jess Underwood (Hudson, N.H. / Alvirne) earned the save with 1.0 inning and one strikeout.
-Danielle Brown takes the loss for Saint Michael's and falls to 3-12 on the season. She pitched 4.0 innings before being relieved by Anna Meusel and Molly Feeney.
HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME 2
-It was the Hounds who got on the board first in game two on a one-out solo homer over the left-field fence from sophomore Stephanie Menard (Cranston, R.I. / Cranston HS West) in the top of the second.
-The Hounds added two more in the top of the third to increase their lead to 3-0. With just one out, Moniz singled up the middle to score Abad, who reached on a single to center field.
-Menard followed with a single through the left side to score Moniz.
-In the bottom of the fourth, Saint Michael's got on the board when Judi Barcavage singled to score Danielle DelGreco, 3-1 Hounds.
-In the bottom of the sixth, the Purple Knights struck again when DelGreco grounded out to Abad at secocnd base to score Caroline Staples, who had reached on an infield single, 3-2.
-In the top of the seventh, the Hounds were up by just one and scored five runs to take an 8-2 lead.
-Mirabell doubled to score Clark, who had led off with a double before Moniz homered to left center to score Mirabell. Menard followed with a single through the left side and, with two outs, Caira homered to plate Menard.
-The Saint Michael's rally fell short in the bottom of the seventh. With two outs, the Purple Knights scored two runs on two hits before a foul out to Schultz behind the plate ended the game, 8-4.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS - GAME 2
-Three Hounds homered in game two including Moniz, Menard and Caira while Clark and Mirabell added doubles to Assumption's extra-base hits.
-Clark and Menard each registered three hits while Moniz led the Hounds with four RBI.
-The Hounds outhit Saint Michael's 14-9 in game two.
-Underwood earns the win and improves to 2-7 on the season. She registered four strikeouts in 5.1 innings while allowing seven hits and just two runs. Underwood was relieved by Roy who pitched 0.2 innings before junior Courtney Oliva (Vernon, Conn. / Rockville) finished the game with two hits and two runs in 1.0 innings.
-Molly Feeny takes the loss for Saint Michael's allowing 14 hits in 6.2 innings with three strikeouts before being replaced by game one starter, Brown, for the final out.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORES:
-Mazzeo's homer marks her second of her inaugural season.
-Hounds have won five of their last seven games.
-Caira's homer marks her fifth of the season as she continues to lead the Hounds.
-Four strikeouts is the second-most for Underwood in a single game this season.
-The Hounds move back into third place in the NE-10 Northeast Division standings with a 10-6 divisional record. In the lead is Southern New Hampshire, with an 11-3 record.
