THE BASICS:
-Score Game 1: Assumption 12, Saint Anselm 11

-Location: Worcester, Mass. (Marois Field)
-The Lead: The Assumption College softball team extended its win streak to seven on Saturday afternoon with a sweep over Saint Anselm College to conclude its three-game series sweep. Prior to Saturday's games the Hounds honored seniors Christina Caira (Newton, Mass. / Newton North), Jess Underwood (Hudson, N.H. / Alvirne) and Kayli Moniz (Fairhaven, Mass. / Fairhaven).
Assumption is now 15-6 in the Northeast Division of the NE-10 and in second place. With regular-season conference games set to conclude across the NE-10 on Sunday, the Hounds await final announcement of playoff seeding.
HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME 1
-The Hawks scored four runs to kick off the top of the first inning on four hits, including two home runs, for a 4-0 advantage.
-Assumption battled back in the bottom of the frame when Moniz sent a three-run bomb over the left field fence to score juniors Ashley Clark (Pawtucket, R.I. / William E. Tolman) and Ashley Abad (Bedford, N.H. / Bedford). Clark reached base on her 14th double of the season while Abad singled to center.
-Sophomore Stephanie Menard (Cranston, R.I. / Cranston HS West) followed with a hard single up the middle before scoring on a dropped fly ball sent into the outfield by Caira to tie it 4-4.
-A solo shot to left field with one out in the top of the second to put the Hawks back on top 5-4.
-In the bottom of the frame with freshman Julia Mazzeo (Milford, N.H. / Milford) on first, freshman Caitlin Mirabell (Shoreham, N.Y. / Shoreham-Wading River) blasted the ball to the right-field fence. The right fielder tripped over the fence and in the time it took to get the ball back in play, Mirabell had motored around the bases and escaped the tag at the plate to put Assumption up 6-5.
-Saint Anselm reclaimed the lead in the top of the third on a two-run homer by senior Julie LeClair, 7-6 Hawks.
-In the top of the sixth, LeClair hit a three-run homer to give the Hawks a commanding 11-6 edge.
-The Hounds responded in the bottom of the frame with a three-run home run from Menard to score Abad and Clark, cutting the differential to two. Abad had doubled to right center while Clark reached base on a single to left, 11-9 Hawks.
-Assumption shut down the Hawks in the top of the seventh with a one-two-three inning before coming out with a big bottom of the seventh.
-The Hounds loaded the bases with just one out in the bottom of the seventh before registering the second out on a swinging strikeout. Mazzeo scored on a passed ball to make it 11-10 before Moniz stepped to the plate with runners in scoring position. Moniz reached on an overthrow of first base by the Hawks third-baseman to score both Clark and Mirabell for the walk-off victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS - GAME 1
-Abad led the Hounds at the plate going 4-for-5 and scoring two runs while Moniz drove in a team-high four runs. Menard followed with two hits and three RBI.
-Overall, Assumption outhit the Hawks 17-13 including home runs by Moniz and Menard and doubles off the bats of Clark, Mirabell and Abad.
-Junior Courtney Oliva (Vernon, Conn. / Rockville) earns her first win of the season, improving to 1-5. She pitched the final 2.0 innings while allowing just one hit, one run and striking out one.
-Underwood started in the circle, allowing seven hits and seven runs while striking out three before junior Jurnee Serating-Ware (Hudson, Mass. / Hudson) entered in relief. Serating-Ware pitched 3.0 innings allowed three runs on five hits and struck out two batters.
-Saint Anselm's Arika Brochu drops to 8-13 with the loss after pitching the final inning. She allowed three runs, including the winning run to take the loss. She relieved Sam Hennequin who started for the Hawks, pitching 5.2 innings and allowing 14 hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME 2
-Assumption got out to an early lead in game two in the bottom of the first. Clark led off with a single to center field before Mirabell walked. The pair crossed the plate on a hard triple down the right-field line by Abad, 2-0 Hounds.
-The Hounds extended their lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the fifth. Moniz tripled to right field to score Mazzeo, who had doubled, and Mirabell who had reached on a fielder's choice.
-Menard followed with a single to left to score Moniz for the third run of the inning.
-Saint Anselm got on the board in the top of the sixth scoring two runs on four hits. The first run came after back-to-back doubles followed by a one-out, RBI grounder to tally the final run, 5-2.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS - GAME 2
-Abad once again led the Hounds offensively going 2-for-3 in game two with two RBI. Both of Abad's hits were extra-base hits including a double and a triple. Moniz also drove in two runs while Mirabell scored twice.
-Saint Anselm outhit the Hounds 11-9 while leaving 10 runners on base compared to just six for Assumption.
-The Hounds posted two doubles (Abad, Mazzeo) as well as two triples (Abad, Moniz).
-Both pitchers registered complete games in game two. Sophomore Kendal Roy (Grafton, Mass. / Grafton) claims the victory for Assumption as she improves to 14-6 on the season. She allowed 11 hits but just two runs while striking out three.
-Brochu took the second loss for the Hawks allowing nine hits and five earned runs in 6.0 innings.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORES:
-Clark has registered eight doubles in her last 10 games and has now cracked into the top 10 in program history in doubles in a single season (14).
-There were seven home runs in game one, two of which were off of Hound bats.
-Abad is now ranked fifth in the NE-10 with a .407 batting average.
-Moniz is now fifth in the league in RBI with 32.
-Roy continues to rank among the top five pitchers in the conference in wins, but has moved up to fourth with 14.
