THE BASICS:

-Score: Assumption 2, Le Moyne 10 (5 Innings)

-Location: Briarcliff Manor, N.Y. (Pace Field)

-The Lead: The Assumption College softball season ended on Friday afternoon with a loss to Le Moyne in Briarcliff Manor, N.Y. in the second round of the 2016 Northeast-10 Conference Tournament. The 10-2 loss snaps the Hounds' eight-win streak.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

-The Hounds came out on fire in the top of the first inning, scoring twice for a 2-0 lead. With one out, freshman Caitlin Mirabell (Shoreham, N.Y. / Shoreham-Wading River) singled to center field before junior Ashley Abad (Bedford, N.H. / Bedford) walked to put two on base.

-Senior Kayli Moniz (Fairhaven, Mass. / Fairhaven) blasted a double down the left line to score Mirabell and put Assumption up 1-0. Sophomore Stephanie Menard (Cranston, R.I. / Cranston HS West) grounded out but registered an RBI to score Abad for the two-run advantage.

-Le Moyne erupted for six runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 6-2 lead, including a lead-off solo homer by Tess Andrews and a three-run bomb off the bat of Kelly Mascari.

-In the top of the third, Mirabell singled up the middle before three-straight outs left her stranded at first.

-Roy retired three straight, two on strikeouts in the bottom of the third to hold off the Dolphins and keep the Hounds in the hunt, 6-2.

-Le Moyne scored twice more in the bottom of the fourth on two runs and three hits to take a signinficant 8-2 lead. 

-Assumption needed to score to help prevent a run-ruling in the bottom of the fifth, but three straight Hounds went down in the frame to put the Dolphins back at the plate still up by six.

-Le Moyne led off with a single in the bottom of the fifth inning before Cara Cawley homered to right field for two RBI and the walk-off victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

-Mirabell led the team with two of Assumption's four hits. Le Moyne registered nine hits on the day leaving four runners on base compared to three for the Hounds.

-Moniz was the only Hound to register an extra-base hit with her double while the Dolphins posted a double and three homers.

-Sophomore Kendal Roy (Grafton, Mass. / Grafton) takes the loss for Assumption and drops to 15-7 on the season. She scattered seven hits in 3.1 innings while allowing eight runs, five earned.

-Roy also posted five strikeouts on the day before being replaced by junior Jurnee Serating-Ware (Hudson, Mass. / Hudson) in the bottom of the fourth inning. Serating-Ware allowed two hits and two runs in 0.2 innings.

-Alexis Eastman earns the win for Le Moyne and improves to 19-6 on the season. She entered the game in relief in the top of the third and allowed just one hit while striking out five batters in 3.0 innings. Toni Secreti started the contest for the Dolphins and allowed three hits and two runs while striking out one.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE 

-The Hounds entered Friday's contest on an eight-win streak and were 10-1 in their last 11 games headed into the second round of NE-10 competition. 

-Roy registers 77 strikeouts on the season in 136.1 innings, up from 48 last year in 115.0. 

-Abad finished the season with a lofty .411 batting average to lead the Hounds' offense.
