- The Lead: The Assumption women's soccer team jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and held on to defeat Saint Michael's 2-1 today in NE10 play.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Freshman Johnna Caporuscio (Wayne, N.J. / Wayne Hills) recorded her fourth goal of the season to put the Hounds up 1-0 against Saint Michael's. Junior Kallie Villemaire (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Beekmantown) got things started when she fired two consecutive shots that were blocked, before Caporuscio cleaned things up off of a rebound, giving the Hounds the lead just ten minutes into the action.
- The Hounds doubled their lead five minutes before halftime, when sophomore Sydney Huckabee (Akron, Ohio / Archbishop Hoban) tallied her second goal of the season, collecting a loose ball outside of the box and placing it into the left side of the net.
- Saint Michael's pulled within one goal in the 73rd minute, as Abby Pelon and Sam Faust connected in the box before Pelon poked it past sophomore keeper Alexis Nason (Saco, Maine / Thornton Academy) to make the score 2-1.
- Assumption dominated the remainder of the game, outshooting the Purple Knights 4-1 while earning a pair of corner kicks. Nason registered the final save of the match in the 90th minute as the Hounds left Colchester, Vermont with a conference win.
BEHIND THE NUMBERS:
- The 5-1-1 conference record is the best start to NE10 play since the 2014-15 season when the Hounds played in the championship game.
QUOTE FROM THE COACH:
"I thought we played pretty well; road games are always challenging, especially a rescheduled game. I thought overall we worked on some things that we didn't do so well against Saint Anselm and ended on a positive note." – Head Coach Grace Barnard
