THE BASICS:
-Scores: Ashland 4, Assumption 2, (Game One), Bridgeport 1, Assumption 0 (Game Two)
-Records Game One: Assumption (4-6), Ashland (7-9)
-Records Game Two: Assumption (4-7), Bridgeport (6-1)
-Location: Clermont, Fla.
- The Lead: The Hounds fell 4-2 to Ashland in their opening contest of the day and then dropped a 1-0 decision to Bridgeport to conclude their spring break trip.
HOW IT HAPPNED:
GAME ONE:
- Dayna Denners walked and then scored off a double from Paige McMenemy to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Ashland scored its second run in the second inning when Cassie Haight scored from a single off Paige Summers.
- The Eagles scored their last two runs in the third inning. Jenny Raguz hit a triple to drive home Katie Manaham, and then scored when Haight hit a double.
- Assumption cut the lead in half in the fifth inning scoring two runs.
Ally Hinosja (Revere, Mass/ Revere High School) and
Ashley Clark (Pawtucket, R.I. / William E. Tolman) each scored when
Caitlin Mirabell (Shoreham, N.Y. / Shoreham-Wading River) ripped a double. However, the Hounds weren't able to get any closer as they fell 4-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
GAME TWO:
-Bridgeport scored the only run of the game in the fourth inning. Kamryn Beach hit a double to get on base to lead off the inning. Senior Ashley Hessler hit a sac fly to advance Beach to third and then scored on a single by Allison Luzzi.
-The Hounds came close to scoring in the fifth inning when Cassie Schultz (Amesbury, Mass./Amesbury) hit a double, but then she was thrown out at third, ending the scoring threat.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- In the first game, Courtney Oliva (Vernon, Conn./Rockville) registered three strikeouts while Mirabell recorded a double and an RBI.
- In the second game, Kendal Roy (Grafton, Mass./Grafton) recorded seven strikeouts while Schultz hit the only double.
UP NEXT:
- The Hounds travel to American International for a doubleheader starting at 2:00 pm on Friday March 17th.
