THE BASICS:

-Score: West Virginia Wesleyan 5, Assumption, 0 (Game One) Ferris 9, Assumption 2 (Game Two)

-Records Game One: Assumption (4-1),  West Virginia Wesleyan (6-1)

-Records Game Two: Assumption (4-2),  Ferris (3-8)

-Location: Clermont, Fla.

- The Lead: Assumption suffered its first two losses of the 2017 season today as they fell 5-0 to West Virginia Wesleyan and 9-2 to Ferris. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- West Virginia Wesleyan jumped out to a quick lead in the first inning with the bases loaded Sarah Scoone hit a single to tally the first two runs of the game. 

- In the third inning the Bobcats got two more runs to extend their lead to 4-0. Jessica Rodriguez hit a double to drive Morgan Brucec home and then she later scored on a fielding error. 

- Tori Porgue scored the fifth and final run of the game in the seventh inning when she made it home on a single from teammate Olivia Gore.

- At the bottom of the seventh the Hounds offense tried to make a comeback. Nicole Duplease (Leominster, Mass. / Leominster) and Stephanie Menard (Cranston, R.I. / Cranston HS West) each singled to get on base but the Bobcat defense retired the next three batters to end the game 5-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Ferris State went up 2-0 in the first inning when Emily Reed hit a triple to drive in Alex Astorga while Logan Flemming hit a double to score Reed. 

- With two runners on in the third, Bailey Darwin hit a home run to extend the Bulldog lead to 5-0.

- The top of the fith, Fleming hit a double to score Reed for the second time, while Lexi Hongisto singled to bring in Fleming. Sarah Johnson and Hongisto scored off a single from Jaclyn Stone to end the contest 9-2.

- The Hounds tallied two runs in the bottom of the fith inning. Ashley Clark (Pawtucket, R.I. / William E. Tolman) and Duplease each got on base while Menard and Kayla Peabody (Medford, Mass./Nipmuc Regional High School) each recorded a single to earn two runs. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- In game one, Courtney Oliva (Vernon, Conn. / Rockville) struck out eight batters, while Menard tallied the only double for the team.

- In game two, Kendal Roy (Grafton, Mass./ Grafton) struck out two batters while Peabody added a double and an RBI.

-The Hounds are back in action on Thursday, March 9 vs. Caldwell at 10:30 am and St. Cloud University at 1:00 pm
