Softball Defeats Southern New Hampshire 9-8

The Lead: Junior Caitlin Mirabell (Shoreham, N.Y./ Shoreham-Wading River) tallied three RBI and registered a double to lead the Hounds to a 9-8 win over Southern New Hampshire to take the third game in the series.   

HOW IT HAPPNED: GAME ONE:

- Assumption got out to a 2-0 lead in the first. With Mirabell on second and Ashley Abad (Bedford,N.H./ Bedford) on first, junior Nicole Duplease (Leominster, Mass./ Leominster) hit a double to centerfield to tally two RBI. In the bottom of the frame the Penmen put up three runs. With the bases loaded Jessica Torsiello was hit by a pitch to advance Katie Horiuchi home, and then Hannah Neverett and Devan Rabidou singled to drive in two more runs and take the 3-2 advantage.

- Southern New Hampshire added a fourth run in the third inning when Tyrell scored an unearned run when Torisello reached on a fielding error. 

- The Hounds rallied to score five runs in the fourth to take a 7-4 lead. With the bases loaded, Mirabell hit a three-run double to scoring senior Ashley Clark (Pawtucket, R.I./ William E. Tollmas), Victoria Petrie (Malborough, Mass./ Malborough) and Cassie Schultz (Amesbury, Mass/ Amesbury). Next batter Abad singled to left to advance Mirabell to second, and then sophomore Julia Mazzeo (Milford, N.H./Milford) hit a single to drive in Mirabell and Abad for the 7-4 lead.

- In the bottom of the sixth the Penmen scored two runs to cut the deficit to one. Erin Garcynski hit a single to score Erin Tyrell and Brittany Perdiago to head into the seventh 7-6 in favor of the Hounds.
 
- Assumption tallied two runs in the top of the seventh inning to extend their lead to 9-6. With runners on second and third, Clark singled up the middle to score Petrie, and then Abad hit a sacrifice fly to score Shelby Lindsay (New Durham, N.H./ Kingswood Regional High School). The Penmen answered back with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to cut the lead to 9-8. With the bases loaded and two outs Garcynski fouled out to Stephanie Menard (Cranston, R.I. / Cranston HS West) to end the game in Assumption's favor. 
 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

 - Junior pitcher Kendal Roy (Grafton, Mass./Grafton) tossed a complete game facing 39 batters and striking out one batter and allowing six runs.

- The Hound offense was led by Mirabell with three RBI and a double. Mazzeo and Duplease each added two RBI while Clark and Abad registered one.
