Softball Falls In NE10 Tournament to Southern New Hampshire

THE BASICS:

-Score: Southern New Hampshire 10, Assumption 4

-Records: Assumption (19-18, 15-10 NE10) Southern New Hampshire (26-19, 12-13 NE10)

- Location: Worcester, Mass. (Marois Field)

The Lead: The Assumption softball team kept it close through five innings but ultimately fell 10-4 in the first round of the NE10 Tournament to Southern New Hampshire to end thier 2017 season. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- The Penmen scored first to take a 1-0 lead. With Brittany Perdigao on third, Sarah Lavallee hit a hard grounder to third to reach first and drive in Perdigao. 

- In the top of the third, Southern New Hampshire extended their lead to 2-0. Sophomore catcher Erin Garczynski singled and scored from first on a double from Lavallee. 

- The Hounds tied the game 2-2 in the bottom of the third. Senior Cassidy Colby (Charlton, Mass./ Shepherd Hill) and sophomore Victoria Petrie (Malborough, Mass./ Malborough) reached first and second and Ashley Clark (Pawtucket, R.I./ William E. Tollman) hit a double down the left field line to score Petrie. With the bases loaded, Nicole Duplease (Leominster, Mass./ Leominster) was hit by a pitch which then forced Colby home.

- The Penmen broke the tie in the top of the fourth. Katie Horiuchi hit a sacrifice fly to score Devan Rabidou and next batter Garczynski hit a single to left to drive in Erin Tyrell. In the bottom of the frame Assumption fought back to tie the game 4-4. Senior Cassie Schultz (Amesbury, Mass/ Amesbury) hit a single to open the inning and Petrie was walked to advance her to second. Colby hit a triple to plate two runs and tie the game. 

- In the sixth inning Southern New Hampshire added two more runs to take the 6-4 lead. Garczynski singled to score Perdigao, and Jess Torsiello singled to plate Kailey March. 

- Southern New Hampshire scored four unanswered runs in the top of the seventh to take a 10-4 lead and the Hounds weren't able to mount a comeback in the final frame.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Junior pitcher Kendal Roy (Grafton, Mass./Grafton) pitched 6.2 innings, faced 40, and allowed nine earned runs and Jurnee Serating-Ware (Hudson, Mass./Hudson) came in for relief only allowing one hit. Colby led the offense with two RBI and a triple while Clark hit two doubles and recorded an RBI.
