- The Lead: Assumption and Saint Rose battled back and forth during regulation, exchanging goals before the Golden Knights scored the game winning goal in the second overtime period to win 3-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Hounds wasted no time making their presence felt in Albany, New York, as junior Kallie Villemaire (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Beekmantown) collected a pass from senior Amanda Arnold (Saco, Maine / Thornton Academy), took two dribbles and slotted it to the left side of the net in the opening 1:22 of the game.
- Saint Rose equalized in the 18th minute when Caitlyn Dabagian hit a one-touch finish to the left corner of the net. The Golden Knights pulled ahead just 20 minutes later, as Karmyn Carter found a loose ball in the box and poked it past sophomore goalkeeper Alexis Nason (Saco, Maine / Thornton Academy).
- Assumption tied the game at two goals apiece when they capitalized on a set piece from 35 yards out. Junior Ania Spina (Wallingford, Conn. / Mark T. Sheehan) sent the ball into the box that sailed over the initial wall of defenders heads and into the six yard box where Villemaire flicked a header past the keeper.
- The Golden Knights scored the golden goal during the second overtime period, as Nina Predanic was put in on a breakaway and dribbled past Nason before slotting it into the goal.
BEHIND THE NUMBERS:
- With the two goals, Villemaire adds to her NE10 and nationally leading tally of 11 goals.
- Spina and Arnold are tied for second in the NE10 with five assists apiece.
QUOTE FROM THE COACH:
"It was a pretty good battle from the start of the whistle until the end. I told our kids not to hang our heads and I was proud of the way that we competed today. We are doing a lot of good and positive things on and off the field and we need to keep our momentum moving forward" – Head Coach Grace Barnard
