THE BASICS:

- Records: Assumption (5-1, 3-1 NE10); Southern Connecticut St. (1-6-1, 1-3-1 NE10)

- Location: Worcester, Mass. (Multi-Sport Stadium)

- The Lead:  An own goal in the opening minute of the game by Southern Connecticut was all the Hounds needed as Assumption defeated the Owls 2-0 in NE10 Conference play.


HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Assumption forced a corner kick just 50 seconds into the game, where junior Ania Spina (Wallingford, Conn. / Mark T. Sheehan) sent the set piece towards the front post of the net that deflected off of an Owl and into the net.

- The defense led by sophomore Emily MacDonald (Ludlow, Mass. / The Williston Northampton School), junior Kiana Rocco (Guilford, Conn. / Sacred Heart Academy), sophomore Sammy Ferrera (Natick, Mass. / Natick) and classmate Alexis Stowell (Franklin, Mass. / Franklin) held strong for the remainder of the first half, as Assumption went into halftime up 1-0.

- Midway through the second half, junior Kallie Villemaire (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Beekmantown) was on the receiving end of a cross by Stowell which she headed towards the near post and past the keeper.

BEHIND THE NUMBERS:

- Sophomore goalkeeper Alexis Nason (Saco, Maine / Thornton Academy) posted her first conference shutout of the season and improved to 5-1.

- Villemaire has now scored in every match this season and continues to build on her conference leading goal tally with 12.

- Assumption improves to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in conference play, as their excellent start to the season continues.
