BASICS:

The Lead: Senior pitcher Kendal Roy (Grafton, Mass./Grafton) pitched a complete seven innings and did not allow a run, while three different players tallied RBI to defeat Saint Michael's 3-0 to open NE10 Conference play on Friday night. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- The Hounds got on the board first in the top of the fourth inning as freshman Alyssa Beaton (Smithfield, R.I. / Smithfield High School) scored. Beaton doubled to center field and she moved to third on a sac bunt from senior Nicole Duplease (Leominster, Mass/ Leominster). The next batter, Julia Mazzeo (Milford, N.H. / Milford) drove her in for the lead. 

- Assumption tallied their second run in the top of the fifth inning to extend their lead to 2-0. Freshman Haley Drakoulakos (Lowell, Mass. / Lowell High School) doubled to left center and then Beaton sent her home on her second double of the night. 

- In the top of the sixth the Hounds claimed the 3-0 lead as freshman Alyssa Bialakis (Boca Raton, Fla. / St. John Paul II Academy) singled up the middle to score Mazzeo who reached on an error by Saint Michael's third baseman earlier in the inning. 

- The Purple Knights had one more chance to come back in the bottom of the seventh but Roy tallied two strikeouts in the inning to earn the shut out win. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

- Roy tossed a complete seven innings, faced 30 batters and recorded seven strikeouts. Drakoulakos and Beaton each tallied a double while Mazzeo and Bialakis added RBI.

- The Hounds are back tomorrow as they face Saint Michael's again in a double header starting at 3:00 pm at Southern New Hampshire.
