GAME ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Bridgeport took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first when Samantha Sabor doubled to left field to drive in two runs. In the bottom of the frame, freshman Brooke Murphy (Salem, N.H./ Salem High School) walked in her opening at bat and Kayla Peabody (Mendon, Mass. / Nipmuc Regional High School) doubled to drive her in to cut the lead to 2-1.
- In the bottom of the second, Peabody struck again with a double through the left side to score Victoria Petrie (Marlborough, Mass. / Marlborough) who was hit by a pitch earlier in the inning.
- The Purple Knights went on to score three consecutive runs to pull ahead 5-2. The Hounds responded with two runs in the bottom of the sixth to make the score 5-4. Julia Mazzeo (Milford, N.H./Milford) singled to drive in Murphy. Two batters later, with the bases loaded, freshman Alyssa Bialakis (Boca Raton, Fla. / St. John Paul II Academy) singled to center field to score Mazzeo.
- The Assumption defense held Bridgeport scoreless in the top of the seventh to give the Hound offense a last at bat. Petrie singled but the Purple Knights retired the next three batters to win the game 5-4.
GAME TWO
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Hound offense jumped out to a quick start scoring five runs in the top of the first. With Murphy and Haley Drakoulakos (Lowell, Mass. / Lowell High School) on base, Peabody homered for the 3-0 lead. Freshman Mckenzie Richards (Cranston, R.I. / Cranston High School East) knocked in the final two runs of the inning as she hit a hard ball up the middle to bring home Alyssa Beaton (Smithfield, R.I. / Smithfield High School) and Stephanie Menard (Cranston, R.I. / Cranston HS West).
- Over the next two innings, Urbana scored three runs to bring the score to 5-3. Assumption did not go away and answered with four runs in the top of the third. The Blue Knights walked in two of the runs, and Drakoulakos picked up two RBI off a single.
- The Hounds shut out Urbana in the bottom of the frame and then piled on six more runs. With Marissa Doherty (Lowell, Mass. / Tewksbury Memorial High School), and Shelby Lindsay (New Durham, N.H. / Kingswood Regional High School) on base, Murphy hit her first collegiate inside the park home run and finished 3-for-3 with three RBI on the day.
- In the fifth Urbana had their last chance to score runs but they were only able to tally one before freshman pitcher Mia Nowicki (Chelsea, Mass. / St. Marys Lynn) struck out Katelyn Pate to end the game 15-4.
