BASICS:

The Lead: Freshman pitcher Mia Nowicki (Chelsea, Mass./ St. Mary's Lynn), and senior pitcher Kendal Roy (Grafton, Mass./ Grafton) did not allow a run as senior Stephanie Menard (Cranston, R.I./Cranston) drove in the game-winning run in the first inning as Assumption picked up a 1-0 NE10 Conference win over Bentley on Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

- The Hounds scored the only run of the game in the top of the first as both teams pitching staffs held the offenses scoreless through the remaining six innings. Freshman Haley Drakoulakos (Lowell, Mass. / Lowell High School) singled to right field and then stole second base during the next at bat. With Drakoulakos in scoring position, Menard doubled to the left field fence to drive her in for the 1-0 lead. 

- Nowicki and Roy only allow four hits throughout the game. In the bottom of the seventh the Falcons had their last at bat and Roy retired the first three batters, striking out the last batter to end the game 1-0. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

- Nowicki tossed four innings striking out five batters to pick up the win. Roy completed the game pitching the final three innings to face 12 batters and striking out five. Menard led the offense with a double and RBI, while junior Victoria Petrie (Marlborough, Mass./Marlborough) registered a double.

- Tomorrow, April 12, the Hounds travel Stonehill to face the Skyhawks in a doubleheader starting at 3:00 PM.
