BASICS:

-Scores: Saint Anselm 6, Assumption 2

The Lead: The Assumption College softball team held the Saint Anselm scoreless for the final five innings, but it was not enough as the Hounds gave up six runs in the first two innings to fall 6-2.  

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

- In the first inning, Saint Anselm took the 1-0 lead as Maggie Murphy stole home. In the second inning they extended the lead to 6-0 as the Hawks tallied five runs on four hits. Amanda Bickford led the offense with two RBI and a run in the frame.

-  In the bottom of the third inning, freshman Haley Drakoulakos (Lowell, Mass./Lowell) doubled to left field to score Brooke Murphy (Salem, N.H./Salem), who singled earlier in the inning to make the score 6-1. 

- The Hawks were held scoreless for the rest of the contest. In the bottom of the seventh, the Hounds scored a second run as Julia Mazzeo (Milford, N.H./Milford) doubled to left field to drive in freshman Abigail Duggan (West Roxbury, Mass./Mount Alvernia). The Hawks shut down the next two Assumption batters to end the game 6-2.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

- Senior pitcher Kendal Roy (Grafton, Mass./Grafton) pitched five innings, faced 24 batters and gave up four earned runs, while freshman Mia Nowicki (Chelsea, Mass. / St. Mary's Lynn) pitched two innings in relief and only gave up one hit. Drakoulakos and Mazzeo each tallied a double and an RBI.  

- Today the Assumption College softball team welcomed Professor Brian Coleman to be their celebrity coach. Earlier in the season, Professor Coleman was awarded Faculty Member of the Year for his contributions to the Assumption College Athletic Department. He is pictured above with Head Coach Jon Ladino and Assistant Coach Janelle Mayo.
