BASICS:

The Lead: The Assumption College softball team split an NE10 doubleheader with Pace, defeating the Setters 1-0 in the first game, but then falling 5-0 in the night cap.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
GAME ONE:
- Todays game featured a pitching duel between Pace's Emma Bernet and Assumption's Kendal Roy (Grafton Mass. / Grafton HS). The two pitchers allowed just two hits a piece and combined for seven strike outs on the day.
- In the bottom of the seventh inning, Bernet walked senior Nicole Duplease (Leominster, Mass. / Leominster HS) who was pinch ran for by freshman Abigail Duggan (West Roxbury Mass. / Mount Alveria HS). Duggan proceeded to steal second base during the following at-bat, and then was able to reach home plate to seal the 1-0 win as junior Victoria Petrie (Marlborough, Mass. / Marlborough HS) reached on a throwing error by Pace.
GAME TWO:
- The second game of todays double-header was a one sided affair, as Pace scored five runs and shut out Assumption to split the series at one game a piece.
- Scoring started in the top of the sixth inning when Pace junior Larissa Labs drove in junior Ashley Lew on a sacrifice fly to take the 1-0 lead.
- Then in the top of the seventh Pace added to their lead by scoring four more runs which included an RBI triple by Brianna Parks, RBI single by Jillian Gartner, and a two run inside the park home run by Lew. Pace finished the game with five runs on six hits while Assumption struggled to get runners on base with only one hit while committing two errors in the field.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- In game one, Roy pitched a seven inning shut out with five strikeouts and only allowed two hits. Kayla Peabody (Mendon, Mass. / Nipmuc Regional High School) had a double in the game while Petrie tallied the game-winning RBI.
- In game two, freshman pitcher Mia Nowicki (Chelsea, Mass. / St. Mary's Lynn) recorded seven strikeouts, facing 27 batters over 6.1 innings of work.

- Tomorrow, April 8, the Hounds travel back to Merrimack to host Adelphi in a doubleheader starting at 4:00 PM.
