-The Lead: The Assumption University softball team secured the weekend sweep with two wins over the Skyhawks of Stonehill College on Sunday afternoon. The Hounds cruised to a 7-2 final in game one and battled to a 6-4 final over the Skyhawks in game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-After two scoreless innings the Hounds put up three runs in the bottom of the third inning. Sophomore Jordan Dwyer (Coventry, R.I. / Coventry) led off with a triple to right center field. She came home on an RBI single to third by senior Mckenzie Richards (Cranston, R.I. / Cranston High School East) (1-0). First year Corin Mahan (Abington, Mass. / Abington) earned two RBIs with a single to left field that scored Richards and senior Alyssa Beaton (Smithfield, R.I. / Smithfield High School), for the 3-0 lead.
-The Skyhawks got two runs back in the top of the fifth inning. Senior Gianna Azzato led off with a single to third base. With two outs on the board senior Hannah Ricker got on base on an error by the Hounds and both base runners came home when sophomore Courtney Brochu sent a double to right field for two RBIs (3-2).
-Assumption responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth inning. Senior Alyssa Bialakis (Boca Raton, Fla. / St. John Paul II Academy) started things off with a single to left field and first year Lauren Geremia (North Providence, R.I. / LaSalle Academy) came in as a pinch runner. Geremia stole second and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Richards. Junior Allison Ainley (Rehoboth, Mass. / Dighton-Rehoboth Regional) doubled down the left field line to score Geremia. Senior Shannon Delaney (Methuen, Mass. / Methuen High School) came in to pinch run and crossed home for the second run of the inning and the 5-2 lead.
-The Hounds put up their final two runs of the game when Bialakis earned two RBIs with a double to center field in the bottom of the sixth, 7-2.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Dwyer led Assumption at the plate going 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Richards finished 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored and Bialakis went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
-Brochu went 1-for-3 with two RBIs for Stonehill.
-Senior Mia Nowicki (Chelsea, Mass. / St. Marys Lynn) earned the win in the circle for Assumption and improves to 4-2 on the season. She pitched six innings and struck out four batters.
-Sophomore Molly Adamo falls to 0-3 on the season as she pitched four innings for the Skyhawks.
-Assumption finished game one with 12 hits while the Skyhawks put up four.
Game #2: Assumption 6, Stonehill 4
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Stonehill got on the board with one run in the top of the first. Brochu led off with a single to center field and came home on an RBI single to center by senior Genna Hartman (1-0).
-The Hounds responded with a run in the bottom of the first. With one out, Richards singled to right field and moved to second on a single to left by Beaton. Bialakis earned an RBI with a single to left center that scored Richards (1-1).
-Assumption added two more runs in the bottom of the second innings. Senior Abigail Duggan (West Roxbury, Mass. / Mount Alvernia High School) singled to the pitcher, advanced to second on a single by Geremia and stole third. She came home on a sacrifice fly to left field by Dwyer (2-1). Richards earned an RBI with a single to center field that scored Geremia for the 3-1 lead.
-The Skyhawks got a run back in the top of the third when first year Marissa Dwyer singled to center field to score senior Michelle Theilgard (3-2). They tied the game at three in the top of the fourth.
-The Hounds regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth when Beaton scored Dwyer with a double down the right field line (4-3).
-Assumption extended their lead to three with two more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Bialakis doubled to left center for two RBIs as Beaton and first year Abigail Larson (Marlborough, Mass. / Marlborough) crossed home plate (6-3).
-Stonehill was able to scratch one more across home in the top of the seventh on an RBI single to left by Azzato, but the Hounds made the final out to secure the 6-4 victory and weekend sweep.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Beaton went 4-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored for Assumption. Bialakis finished game two 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
-Brochu went 3-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored for the Skyhawks.
-Junior Erin Barry (Braintree, Mass. / Braintree) improves to 4-1 on the season as she pitched four innings for the Hounds. First year Catherine Higgins (Medway, Mass. / Medway) earned the save, pitching three innings and striking out two batters in the victory.
-Sophomore Kelly Mayette falls to 2-4 on the season for Stonehill. She pitched four innings and struck out two batters.
-Assumption collected 14 hits in game two while Stonehill finished with 12 hits.
