-The Lead: The Assumption University women's lacrosse team fell to the Skyhawks of Stonehill College in Northeast-10 Conference action, on the road, on Saturday afternoon. The Greyhounds outscored Stonehill 5-4 in the first half, but the Skyhawks edged them 6-4 in the final 30 minutes to take home the 10-9 final victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Stonehill jumped on the scoreboard first with a goal by sophomore Lydia Rudden just over two minutes into play. The Greyhounds responded just a couple minutes later as senior Allison Foley (Walpole, Mass. / Walpole) found the back of the net to tie the game, 1-1.The Hounds took the lead on a free position shot goal by senior Olivia Angelo (Miller Place, N.Y. / Miller Place) at the 22:37 mark, 2-1.
-Stonehill tied the game back up with a free position shot scored by senior Shannon Hughes and pulled ahead 3-2 with another goal by Hughes, assisted by first year Molly Mae Hughes at the 14:12 mark.
-Foley dished the ball to sophomore Jenna Joseph (Longmeadow, Mass. / Longmeadow) who put one behind Stonehill goalkeeper, Bailey Grant, to tie the game at three.
-The Skyhawks got one more goal from Hughes with 4:35 on the clock to pull ahead 4-3. Foley put in back-to-back goals before the half to give the Hounds the 5-4 edge heading into the break.
-After a scoreless 8:30 to start the second half, Molly Mae Hughes netted a man-up, free position shot to tie the game 5-5. Sophomore Katie Julien put in another man-up goal just two minutes later for the 6-5 lead. Foley put in her fourth goal of the game at the 17:46 mark when Joseph found her in front of the net to tie the game back up at six.
-Stonehill outscored Assumption, 4-3 over the final 16 minutes to secure the final 10-9 victory. Junior Emma Sullivan scored three goals for the Skyhawks and Foley added three more for the Greyhounds in the final minutes.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Foley led the Hounds on offense with six goals and two assists. Joseph added two goals and an assist in the setback.
-Junior Allie Collins (Natick, Mass. / Natick) made five saves in net for the Greyhounds and falls to 3-1 on the season.
-Grant made 14 saves for Stonehill and improves to 2-0.
-Assumption picked up 34 total groundballs while Stonehill scooped up 21.
-Stonehill won 12 draw controls while the Hounds won eight.
-Assumption outshot the Skyhawks, 35-23.
