-The Lead: The Assumption University women's soccer team earned their third shut-out of the season with a 2-0 non-conference victory over Georgian Court on Tuesday evening. The win lifts the Hounds to a 3-1 overall record as they head into Northeast-10 Conference action for the remainder of September.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Hounds got on the board just over 11 minutes into play when sophomore Kate Carleson (Plainfield, Conn. / Plainfield) dished the ball to senior Diana Bruggeman (Natick, Mass. / Natick) who netted her first goal of the season for the early 1-0 lead.
-First year goalkeeper, Julia Walsh (San Diego, Calif) made huge back-to-back saves in the 20th minute of play to hold onto the 1-0 lead for the Greyhounds heading into the halftime break. Walsh finished the first half with four stops.
-Assumption came out strong in the second half as Carleson and Bruggeman connected again just three minutes into play. Carlson found Bruggeman at the top of the box for the score and the 2-0 advantage.
-The Hounds held strong on defense, only allowing one second half shot that was saved by Walsh, to take home to shut-out victory, 2-0.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Assumption outshot Georgian Court 18-7 (9-5 shots on goal).
-The Hounds were awarded three corner kicks while Georgian Court was awarded one.
-Walsh finished the game with five saves and improves to 3-1 in net for Assumption.
-Alyssa Dias made seven stops in net for Georgian Court and falls to 0-4 on the season.
