WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption University softball team, currently holding the fourth seed, was announced in the second NCAA Division II Regional Poll Wednesday afternoon.

The Greyhounds (19-13, 13-5 NE10) are heading into the final weekend of the regular season with four games left. Assumption is ranked in the top 25 nationally in triples per game (17th – 0.38) and stolen bases per game (17
th – 2.50). Individually, they are in the top 25 in three categories: stolen bases percentage (
Jordan Dwyer, 1.000 – 20 attempts), sacrifice bunts per game (
Alyssa Johnson, 0.26 – 16
th), and hits allowed per game (
Kaelin Waldron, 4.70 – 22
nd).
At the plate,
Summer Sheerin and
Lauren Geremia lead the team with a .341 batting average, while
Corin Mahan paces the team with 16 RBI, and
Kaitlyn Cahill is right behind her with 15. The Greyhounds are true to their name, as they are fast. They lead the conference with 80 stolen bases, as
Jordan Dwyer (20-20),
Kaitlyn Cahill (15-18),
Lauren Geremia (14-17), and
Raigan Gregoire (10-11) all have 10+ steals on the year.
Inside the circle, Assumption has seven pitchers this season that have seen quality time pitching, with
Kaelin Waldron leading the way with a 3-2 record and a 1.32 ERA.
Lexi Thompson (2.21),
Samantha Hardwick (3.11), and
Anna Tassone (3.18) all have sub-4.00 ERA.
Assumption is one of six NE10 schools to appear in the second regional rankings, as Adelphi (28-16, 15-3 NE10), Pace (29-11, 13-5), Southern New Hampshire (23-15, 12-6 NE10), Franklin Pierce (23-12, 10-7 NE10), and Saint Rose (19-15, 8-10 NE10) represent the conference in the regional rankings.
The Greyhounds close out the regular season this week. They will host American International College on Thursday, April 25, at 3:00 p.m., before heading to Albany, N.Y., to face the College of Saint Rose on Saturday, April 27, beginning at noon.
