PREVIEW: Softball returns to Rindge for NCAA Regional

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption University softball team is in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history, as the Greyhounds will take on the No. 3-seeded Molloy University Lions on Sunday, May 10, at 1:00 pm.

Record: 40-10 (30-6 NE10), 15-7 at home, 16-2 on the road, 9-1 at neutral
  • Camryn Van Valkenburgh headlines nine All-NE10 selections, as she was named as the NE10 Player and Rookie of the Year.  
  • Alicia Ott and Savanah Arreguin joined Van Valkenburgh on the All-NE10 First Team, while Zoey Galindo and Georgia Clough found their way on the Second Team. 
  • Franklin Pierce captured their first NE10 Regular Season Championship in program history.

Record: 29-19 (15-3 CACC), 18-2 at home, 9-14 on the road, 2-3 at neutral
  • The Cougars won the CACC Regular Season title, but fell in the championship series against Bridgeport
  • Caldwell is led by the CACC Pitcher of the Year, sophomore Haleigh Fisher, and seven other members of the All-CACC Teams (Emily Kurth, Emerson Karrard, Maddie Matkosky, Kendall Mazur, Katie O'Connor, and Amanda Preston). 
  • The New Jersey-based school is led by Lindsay Mayer (Assumption's head coach and Stacey Mayer's older sister), while Emily Kurth is a sister of Assumption's freshman, Olivia Kurth

No. 5 Assumption University Greyhounds
THE SEASON TO THIS POINT
Record: 30-25 (21-15 NE10), 14-7 at home, 13-15 on the road, 3-3 at neutral
  • Assumption captured their fourth Northeast 10 Conference Championship and their first since 2012 with a 6-4 win over SNHU. 
  • The Greyhounds knocked off the top three seeds (Franklin Pierce, Adelphi, SNHU) in the Northeast 10 Tournament to win the NE10 Championship
  • Maddy Bland was named the NE10 Most Outstanding Player, while Kaelin Waldron and Kaylee Lacomb were named to the All-Tournament Team. 
  • Bland was named to the All-NE10 First Team, while Kaitlyn Cahill and Kaelin Waldron earned Second Team honors. Emma Bloom and Kya Birtz made their way on the Third Team, with Bianca Vincequere being named to the All-Defensive Team. Bella Mara was named to the All-Rookie Team. 
  • The Greyhounds lead the nation with 227 steals, which is the most in Division II since 2014, and are tied with Shaw (1993) for the 11th most in a single season in Division II history.

No. 8 Mercy University Mavericks
THE SEASON TO THIS POINT

Record: 25-18 (13-7 ECC), 14-4 at home, 7-8 on the road, 4-6 at neutral
  • Mercy is coming off a 7-4 loss to D'Youville in the ECC Championship on Friday. 
  • The Mavericks qualified for the ECC Championship for the sixth straight season.
  • Allison Murphy, Averi Miller, and Dylan Reyer were named First Team All-ECC, and Emma Jackson and Lauren McSweeney were tabbed Second Team All-ECC. Jackson was named ECC Co-Rookie of the Year.
