Adelphi 5, Assumption 3
Garden City, N.Y. -- The Assumption Greyhounds baseball team lost 5-3 visting the Panthers of Adelphi University on Wednesday.
Assumption senior shortstop Shawn Frigon (Worcester, Mass./Saint Peter-Marian) continued his outstanding season, going two-for-five with two RBI. Junior transfer third baseman Travis Smith (Coventry, R.I. / Bishop Hendricken) went three-for-four with an RBI, continuing his strong first season with the Hounds.
It was for naught as Adelphi junior shortstop Lucas Romeo (Queens, N.Y./ St. Francis Prep) went three-for-three, and senior centerfielder Trevor Thorstensen (Holbrook, N.Y./ Sachem East) had three RBI on a bases-clearing double in the bottom of the fourth that proved too much for the Greyhounds to overcome. Senior relief pitcher Oren Rasowsky (Glenmont, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) and sophomore closer Jimmy Milani (Centereach, N.Y./Centereach) combined for four scoreless innings of relief, striking out seven Greyhounds.
Assumption is now 5-12 with a 2-2 record in the Northeast-10, while Adelphi climbs to 14-7-1 with a 4-2 conference record. The Greyhounds are in action again on Friday as they host Franklin Pierce.
