Pleasantville, N.Y. -- The Assumption baseball team lost a heart-breaking 1-0 game at Pace University on Sunday.
Pace starting pitcher MacKenzie King (Blairstown, NJ/North Warren) threw a complete-game shutout with 10 strikeouts. King became the all-time strikeout leader for Pace University with 202.
Assumption junior pitcher Frank Flynn (Worcester, Mass./St. Peter-Marian) was excellent through five-and-two-thirds innings, allowing just five hits. However, an RBI single by the Setters' senior outfielder Kenny Wright (Middle Island, N.Y./Longwood) in the bottom of the sixth inning proved to be the difference maker.
The Greyhounds had a chance to tie it up in the ninth inning when freshman outfielder Ysander Figueroa (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Tech) attempted to score from second base on a fly ball with two outs. Kenny Wright was again the hero for Pace, gunning Figueroa out at the plate.
Pace improves to 11-16-1 overall and 5-8 in the NE-10 as the Greyhounds fall to 6-19 overall and 3-8 in the conference. The Greyhounds are back in action this Tuesday as they host Merrimack College.
