North Andover, Mass. -- Just two days after an eighth inning come from behind victory at home against Merrimack College, the Assumption College baseball team experienced some payback on the part of the Warriors on Thursday, losing 4-3 on the road.
Junior pitcher Ben Hastings (Norton, Mass./Norton) pitched six shutout innings for the Greyhounds, while senior right fielder Mike Foley (Worcester, Mass./Saint John 's) homered in the top of the fifth to give Assumption a 1-0 lead. Senior left fielder Wally Derosier (Shrewsbury, Mass./Holy Name) homered in the seventh to put the Hounds up 2-0, and senior shortstop Shawn Frigon (Worcester, Mass./St. Peter-Marian) hit a sacrifice fly in the eighth to score another run for a 3-0 lead.
It all started to unravel for the Greyhounds in the bottom of the ninth inning. After two singles and a walk loaded the bases with two outs, two more walks and a hit batter would send the game into extra innings. In the bottom of the tenth, Merrimack junior outfielder PJ Farnham (Andover, Mass./Andover) hit a sacrifice fly to end the game with a win for the host Warriors.
The Greyhounds fall to 7-20 overall while Merrimack improved to 9-16 on the year. The Greyhounds are back in action on Friday as they host Pace University.
