Worcester, Mass. -- The Assumption College baseball team defeated Pace University 9-6 on Friday afternoon at Rochleau Field. Sophomore second baseman Shane Keddy (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Tech) led the Greyhounds with two hits, three RBI and two runs scored.
Pace took an early lead as Brian Kraminitz (Bedminster, NJ/Bridgewater Raritan) had a RBI groundout in the second and Steven Martinez (Bronx, NY/Archbishop Stepanic) tripled in the second Pace run in the third inning for a 2-0 Setter lead.
The Greyhounds would rally back in the bottom of the third, scoring four runs with two of those coming off a double by Keddy. After the Setters scored two runs in the top of the first to tie the game at four, Keddy would double in another run in the sixth, and was brought home himself off a single by senior outfielder Wally Derosier (Shrewsbury, Mass./Holy Name) to give Assumption the lead for good at 6-4. Assumption capitalized on an error and a wild pitch by Pace in the bottom of the eighth to score three more runs, putting the game away.
The Greyhounds improve to 8-20 and 4-8 in conference play while the Setters fall to 11-17-1 overall and 5-9 in the NE-10. The Greyhounds are back in action on Saturday as they head to UMass Lowell for a conference double-header.
