Worcester, Mass. -- The Assumption College baseball team won two games from the visiting Golden Knights of the College of Saint Rose on Sunday, winning game one, 9-8, and game two, 16-7.
In game one, Assumption rallied from an 8-5 defecit, scoring the eventual winning run in the bottom of the eighth when sophomore second baseman Shane Keddy (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Tech) scored on an error. Junior catcher Tim Quinn (Paxton, Mass./Saint John's) went four-for-four with two home runs and four RBI to lead the offense. Sophomore pitcher Matt Metcalf (Warwick, R.I./Bishop Hendricken) was tremendous in relief for the Greyhounds, pitching four-and-two-thirds shutout innings and striking out five for his first win of the season.
In game two, the Greyhounds jumped on the Golden Knights pitching early, scoring six runs in the bottom of the first, capped off by a grand slam by senior designated hitter Drew Dombrowski (Southampton, Mass./Hampshire). Senior outfielder Wally Derosier (Shrewsbury, Mass./Holy Name) hit another grand slam in the third inning and Assumption never trailed. Senior outfielder Mike Foley (Worcester, Mass./Saint John 's) went four-for-five with two RBI. The sixteen runs were a season-high for Assumption.
The Greyhounds are now 10-22 with a 5-10 conference record. The team is back in action on Tuesday as they head to AIC.
